ok, i've tried to find some info in the forums about this, but i haven't found much that really answers the question.
the list of mpeg2 cards under "capture cards" from the vcdhelp.com webpage...are the low-end ones around $200 actually going to HELP with mpeg2 encoding, such as using tmpg? like, if i am going to convert a divx/avi file into an mpeg2, i'm taking about 9 hours with high settings. now, if i get a new card--i was looking at the WinTV PVR 250 i believe--will it speed up the encoding process, or is it not going to affect it at all?
and also, will the type and memory size of the primary video card affect speeds at all?
and sorry, a third...does RAM help in speeds, i'm at 512 meg now.
thanks

more memory can help
video card doesnt mater at all what so ever
a hardware encoder can be faster - yes, but there are down sides to a hardware card also ..
a hardware card will not speed up tmpgenc or any other software encoder ..
