Hey all,
Just picked up this movie (old school) at the local BlockBuster on my way home from work and planned to watch it on my PC (since nobody else in the household cares for it), but it won't play
...heck, it won't even show up as being in the drive

May be a UDF disc. The PC won't see it unless you start the DVD player software BEFORE inserting the disc. Usually not a problem on DVD-ROM drive that hae autorun set to a DVD player.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored. -
txpharoah,
No idea what "UDF" disc is, but I tried opening the DVD Player software first and then insert the DVD - but still nothing
...works OK in stand-alone player, but like I said; others don't wanna watch this movie with me

rip idvd in backup mode on smartripper
use ifoedit to open main ifo and click get vts sector (answer yes to all questions)
burn with your favorite program
sometime (rarely) people write the dvd wrong
because it was pressed, it will probaly play in your standalone
i had that happen to me a couple of tomes (krush groove, and something else, i don't remember what) -
vance43211,
I would love to just do it that way and watch the seperat .vob files one-by-one, but the thing is that the disc it not even seen by the OS
I'm getting 2 error messages here:
1) Please insert disk in drive...
2) There is no DVD in drive...
...other movie I rented (tears of the sun) works fine, so nothing wrong with my DVD drive. The DVD disc play OK in a stand-alone player, so there is something on there.

Hi,
Had the same problem with LOTR-1, difference is that I am in Asia. But mucked around quite a bit and found out that since movies are on DVD-Video format, they are coded for a certain region of this planet i.e. Asia/U.S/Europe/Australia to prevent piracy. Now the problem arises when you are in one region but somehow get a DVD of another region. Most standalones are RPC-1(which in ordinary man's terms means that they are region-free or that they will play any DVD) but drives are trickier or they are RPC-2 meaning that they are region protected or they will play the DVD's of a certain region only. You can check whether your drive is RPC-1/2 but I strongly suspect that it is RPC-2 as mine was( what I mean by that is I made my drive a RPC-1 by flashing(nothing to do with breasts) the firmware of the drive or the main chip which makes the drive reads the disc. This is good and bad, because if you make even the slightest mistake while flashing the firmware, your drive is as good as junk. But if you are successful, then your drive will read any disc on earth. To check whether your drive id RPC-1/2, check the DEVICE MANAGER , right click on the properties for the DVD-drive and see the contents of the Region Tab.
Hope this info is of help. DONT FLASH THE DRIVE. IT COULD BECOME JUNK. BETTER YET GET AN ELECTRONICS GUY/TECHIE FRIEND TO DO IT. -
This happens to me sometimes but usually with burned discs as opposed to original discs but same thing ...
Just try to open and close ... open and close ... open and close the DVD until the computer recognizes it. Chances are it will. The problem is that for whatever reason your computer's DVD drive is having a hard time reading the disc.
Make sure you clean the disc first as best you can since dirt and fingerprints etc. can make it hard-to-read by the DVD drive.
Good Luck!

P.S.
There is a 'normal' version of OLD SCHOOL and an 'uncut' version. I noticed that WAL-MART had a bazillion of the 'normal' version for sale ... with none of the 'uncut' versions. I stopped going to BLOCKBUSTER years ago due to their stupid censorship so I wouldn't be surprised if they only carry the 'normal' version. The DVD cover of the 'uncut' version says UNCUT almost as big if not bigger as the TITLE of the movie hehehe"The eyes are the first thing that you have to destroy ... because they have seen too many bad things" - Lucio Fulci
