  2. Do you have paintshop pro or any other image editor, if so just resize it a bit smaller.

Yeah. I'd rather sit on the floor. It's more comfortable to me.

I read that second one. If you look at the full tests they tested the PC systems with hyper threading and with out hyperthreading. Plus the guy who wrote that article also claims that Apple stole it's original OS from Microsoft......

they both stole it from xerox ... apple did a better job of it though ... windows 1 and 2 stunk (real bad), i always believed windows "borrowed" heavy from apple ...

looks like they also didnt use sse2 (floating point extentions) in thier testing or the fact that you can buy an dual amd 64 bit system now and the macs will not be around till the fall .. but i would still like one if they also get a OS-X that is 64bit just to try it out ..

BOXX 1st To Ship Dual Opteron Workstations

Austin, TX – June 3, 2003 – BOXX Technologies, a leading developer of XXTreme award-winning digital content creation systems for the design, entertainment and digital film industries today announced its new 3DBOXX M4 workstations featuring dual AMD Opteron™ 240, 242 and 244 processors are now shipping.

”Our early collaborative efforts with a number of motherboard manufacturers have given us a jump start on the competition,” says Ed Caracappa, director of sales and marketing and BOXX Technologies. “We’re proud to offer our customers the 64-bit performance advantage of AMD Opteron technology and are geared up to deliver the first dual Opteron processor workstations in the industry.”

Designed for Microsoft Windows or Linux, 3DBOXX M4 workstations are enhanced with NVIDIA Quadro architecture and optimized for modeling and rendering 3D content and animation with popular software programs such as Maya, 3ds max, Softimage XSI, LightWave 3D, and Houdini.

interisting read -- but it does appear they did somehow have sse2 off (its marked that way in the results specs - though they thought they had it on) .. also "It's incorrect to normalize the compiler out when performing CPU benchmarks. Instead of measuring 2 different CPUs with the same compiler, they should be using the fastest compiler for each platform. The compiler is integral to CPU design"

but either way you look at it .. g5 is a nice machine - then so is a 64bit amd workstation ... both are workstations and priced like it (the g5 price is very comparable to a dual xeon workstation but still a bit more than a amd)

but i still credit apple for producing some pretty good hardware this time around and as usual thier build quality is first rate -- (they could have made it better if the case could hold more than 2 hard drives though - which sucks). i sure they are glad to team up with IBM on this one ..
