  1. I have a large mpeg2 file that I have split into 3 files using mpeg2cut. The outputted files from mpeg2cut are vob files. The vob files contain both the sound and the picture. If I play the vob files in winDVD they play ok and have both sound and picture.

My question is what program should I use to burn the vob files on a blank DVD so they will play in standalone DVD player? I have tied using ulead dvd movie facory but it does not recognise the vob files?

you will have to author the files first -- since not many authorng packages can except vob files you would have to convert them back to mpeg2 ..

you may also want to just author them with ifoedit ..

  4. @ BJ_M what program can I use to turn the vob files back into mpeg2?

does anybody know another program (that is as easy to use as mpeg2cut) I can use the will split the large mpeg2 file into 3 smaller mpeg2 files?

I find mpeg2cut very easy to use but I don't like the way the it outputs the files in vob format.

I need an easy to use program that will keep the outputted files as mpeg2

I have tried using tmpeg encoder plus but as the file mpeg2 file is over 6gb it just crashes when I try to do the cutting.

I have m2edit pro but find it way to confusing lol.

I just want to split the large mpeg2 file into 3 smaller mpeg2 files surely there is an easy to use program out there?

actually, the newer versions of DVD Lab (www.mediachance.com) will allow you to import .vob files, and will not need to demux or remux them, which will speed up your authoring process considerably.

check it out... 30 day free trial.

  7. @ xXripperXx

I have tired authoring the files using Nero. I have the latest version of Nero. I have renamed the vob file from test1.vob to VIDEO_TS.vob I put the vob files in the VIDEO_TS folder in Nero but when I click on the record button I get the following error messages

"required video file VIDEO_TS.IFO is not present"
"required video file VIDEO_TS.BUP is not present"

"DVD-video compliance test failed. The resulting DVD may be unplayable to you wish to continue?"

My vob files contain both the video and audio. So I don't think your method using Nero will work for me? or am I wrong?

  8. You need to author the DVD correctly for Nero to burn it. You can not just drag/drop the VOB files alone.

Let's back up a few steps. What was your video source? How did producde the VOB files? What are you trying to do?

If you want to burn a DVD with nero without re-authoring then demux the VOB files to the m2v (video) and ac3/pcm (audio) files. Then re-mux them in TMPGenc (or other program) to a MPEG2 file. Then you can drag/drop the MEPG2 file in Nero and it will author/burn it.

Or you could author the MPEG2 in a authoring program: DVD Lab, Maestro, etc. then burn the generated VIDEO_TS folder with nero.

  9. Ok lets start from the start. May I also say I am very new to DVD authoring.

I have a satellite dish that works with my PC via a PCI card. I use a program called progDVB to watch and record programs from the sattelite. The files progDVB outputs are mpeg2 (but not true DVD mpeg2)

If I manually control the start and stop of the recording from the sattelite I am left with a mpeg2 file that contains audio and video. I can then take the file and use Ulead DVD factory to burn the file onto a blank DVD (DVD factory converts the mpeg2 file to true DVD mpeg2). The finished DVD will work in my standalone player.

Obviously manually having to start and stop recordings is very time consuming. What I like to do is switch the sattelite on and record for about 6 hours.

I than have a large mpeg2 file (about 6gb). I just want to split the file in 3 mpeg2 files.

If I try to cut the 6gb mpeg2 file using tmpeg encoder it crashes.

If I cut the file using mpeg2cut the outputted files are .vob containing both audio and video

I need an easy way to just cut the large mpeg2 files in 3 smaller mpeg2 files. I need a program that will keep the outputted files in mpeg2 and the program needs to be easy to use lol.

As I have said I have m2edit pro but find it difficult to learn

I have tried a few mpeg2 cutter programs but as the files from the progDVB are not true DVD mpeg2 they tell me they are unable to open the file.

M2edit pro opens the mpeg2 fie with no problems I just don't know how to get it to cut the file.

M2edit pro is a 1500$ program --- if i spent that much on software , i would learn how to use it (it is VERY simple to use) .. the only problem is that it produces some crazy output at times and dosnt handle VBR files well

you were suggested a solution already -- there is listed here a authoring program that accepts vobs (which btw - are mpeg2 files) -- this seems the simplest method for you to use..

  11. I'd think that you'd want to cut out the commercials from your capture, right? That will shrink the overall size of what you're working with.

If the MPEG2 files are not standard, they can be edited and reencoded with a program like TMPGENc.

Then as MPEG2 files you can load them into your favorite authoring program of choice, which will create the VOB, IFO and BUP files.

Then you can burn the DVD with your burning program of choice.
