  1. I am trying to encode from AVI to MPEG1 w/ "TMPGEnc12h". I also downloaded "MPEG properties" to check if my MPEG was compliant. I have encoded an AVI several times and checked it with the MPEG Properties utility and everything looked alright. "Alright" defined as all the levels displayed i.e.( System, Video, and Audio ) were at the video CD level mark. Next I attempted to burn with Nero 5.5 ( w/ the video 2.0 check enabled ) and ran into no problems. However, when I tried to play the VCD on my player the Hitachi DV-P305 (which says on the front that it plays Video CD's )it gives the message "no disc".
Is this an encoding problem, Nero problem, or Hitachi problem? Or maybe just a little operator fault? Am I reading the MPEG properties utilities right? All questions I would love to know the answers to. Thanks in advance for any replies.

If you check the "DVD PLayer compatibility list" you'll find that your Hitachi unfortunately doesn't take CD-R's, and apparently will only take black layered CD-RW's.
