    Hi.
Is there any way to join AC3 files. I have 2 MPEG (.m2v) files with the audio (.ac3) seperate and I want to join the 2 video and audio files into 1 system stream file (.mpg).

Tmpgenc allows me to mux the audio into the videos as 2 seperate files but when I join together the 2 .mpg files the audio is lost.
I can join the 2 m2v files together but is there any tool to allow me to join the 2 ac3 files together before muxing the single audio file into the single m2v file.

I would convert both to .WAV files, join, then re-convert back to .AC3. I don't know of a program that can join the .AC3s directly (but I believe that it would be possible to write one).

    Thanks for the reply SLK001.
Can I join the wav files (how?) or do I need to multiplex with the video, join the 2 .mpg's and then demultiplex the audio out again before converting to ac3.

I've found software that joins wav's. Again, thanks for the advise.

  5. Apparently you can join AC3s together using a simple DOS command :

    copy /b part1.ac3+part3.ac3 both.ac3

    (/b = binary file)

Most of the time, .AC3 files have time indexes embedded in the headers. Programs that don't use the time indexes to sync to video could use the above method (if it works, and I have my doubts - but I haven't tried it). Those that do sync, would have a crisis with the different time stamps.

You'd need something like Protools or AcidPro 4.0 to join .ac3 files.

  8. You may want to take a look at this MP3 splitter and joiner. It is a very easy to use program. The cost is $19.95.
