So I am looking to encode a long movie to WM9 format and compare it to Divx5. Divx5 is easy as I just load my AVISynth script into VirtualDub and then do full processing to Divx out. WME9 is a different story though. It will not seem to accept input from any of the framservers out there. My only two options seem to be either go to a lossless AVI format or high bitrate MPEG2.
First, I could VirtualDub out to a lossless codec that WME9 supports. This could be difficult as it seems WME9's input support is weak. I may actually not be able to use Huffyuv from the looks of it meaning I will need to go out to a system (non-MS) DV. I have two other DV compressors on my system so I could maybe use those.
My second option is to first encode through TMPGEnc to like 10Mbps, then load that MPEG2 file into WME9. Obviously this will be compressed, but the smaller file would sure be easier to work with and the compression artifacts on MPEG2 seem to be a bit better than some DV codecs, especially if WME9 will only accept MSDV input.
Anyway, if anyone has taken video that they traditionally frameserved and encoded it with WM9 I would sure be interested in knowing how you did it.

Try DVD2AVI and VFAPI. That's how I encoded VOBS to WMV. I don't do it now, since installing WME9 cripples my machine (Format and re-install to fix) from doing certain otherthings related to video.

BY THE WAY..I won't install WMP9 on one of my machines either..
BUT THAT DOESN'T stop me from encoding to WMV format..
The MACHINE encodes fine...and then I just transfer the FILE to the desktop of the NEXT MACHINE over (with WMP installed to PLAYBCK)
