To all those that has not yet tried one, do and you´ll be surprised how good they are. Just imagine not having the troubble with drivers that dont work and having to reboot your machine everytime you install something. Dont need to do that with a mac unless you upgrade your os.
Then there are some that say that they hate it or similar, thats a strong word to say about a machine, how can you hate a machine???????
I dont hate wintel machines but I prefer to use the mac since it just works

Well I recently switched from the WinTel world to the Mac world, and it has made my life so much better
I had a home built P4 2.53 GHz machine, using Windows XP... Which I tried to convience myself used the stable NT kernel, but is there such a thing as a stable kernel when it comes to Windows?.. Dodgy drivers, programs being corrrupted...
My new Dual 1.25 GHz Power Mac just works, plugged an Epson Photo 890 printer in via USB and it worked, not prompts for drivers... It just worked, even status monitor was there with the ink levels available. My partner wanted to print something from here iMac on our home network, I told my Power Mac to allow printer sharing (one tick box) and she just printed at her end with no questions.... My 2 button cordless logitech scroll mouse, I plugged it in and it worked....
Mac OS X 10.2 is excellent and my first experience of Mac OS... Version 10.3 is due to be previewed next week and promises to be even more innovative. Also rumoued in the next processor they will use, and it's likely to be faster than the fastest PC!
And Macs are not that expensive on the consumer models, I think a e-mac is around £700 in the UK, for £999 you get a DVD writer as well.
Once you've tried a Mac you don't go back...

Oh I almost forgot, as for speed in my experience my new Dual 1.25 GHz mac is faster than my old P4 2.53 GHz....
My example is the the seti@home screen saver.....
P4 2.53 GHz - 36 hours of CPU time for 1 work unit
Dual 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4 - 8 hours of CPU time for 1 work unit
Note that CPU time is for each CPU so the Dual PowerPC G4 actually took 4 linear hours to complete the unit which is 2 x 4 hours of CPU time (8 hours)

Would have voted "never used one"...
I wanna be bigger, stronger, drive a faster car... -
Hey tgpo, how many times have you voted?
I know that for a fact that there is no way that 56% of the people on this website think that macs are the best things ever. I have a PC at home, but at work all we have is macs, and for the last two years I kiss my PC everytime I get home at night. PC's are far from perfect, but we have some crazy problems with our macs, even with 10.2. Crash-proof? Hardly. -
Their "fashion designers" do get an A+, however. I wish my PC was as asthetically pleasing.
-
Pretty.
What, you wanted more?
Oh, and yes, okay, of course over half voted 'the best there is'.
My arse.
Will Hay, back from a short holiday, panic over.tgpo, my real dad, told me to make a maximum of 5,806 posts on vcdhelp.com in one lifetime. So I have. -
AarontheRipper,
have you taken a look at Alienware's computers? Or how about one of the Shuttle cases? You can also make custom computers with some VERY cool cases... far nicer than the same old white, glossy stuff that every single apple product has, imo (personally, i'm a bit bored by it). -

They are too proprietory... and there is only one manufacturer or supplier of them...for PCs there are too many options (Intel vs AMD vs Cyrix....Windows 2000 vs Windows XP vs Linux...ASUS vs A-Bit vs Epox vs FIC ... IBM vs Compaq vs DELL vs Packard Bell vs ACER)...
A PC is more customizable, more open architecture and more fun to use...ever try to integrate a MAC into a Novell Netware network ? It ain't fun....they only remaining niche for MACs is the desktop publishing arena...
Give me a PC any day... -
A buddy of mine used to say:
"Macs are for artists, PCs for the real world."
BTW, why has the academic world embraced Apple again?
Oh yeah, the recieved them for free.--

If it were not for the NEA and the U.S. education system in general Apple would have gone the way of the dinosaur a long time ago, IMHO. Most school children are forced to use Macs because this is what the education system buys. My two kids come home and can not do some of there work at home due to limits and compatibilities problems. I will say the school district in which we live has listened to parents and are incorporating more and more window based machines each year.
If the education system in general ever converts completely to Windows based machines, I think Mr. Jobbs may be asking Mr. Gates for a jobb.
I DO NOT SPEAK MAC.
If you do not like Windows you can give LINUX a whirl.

Never tried that... actually I'd never want to work with Novell at this point. But that aside, I voted them as the best, I'm typing from one now. My Primary machines are PCs, but supporting macs and owning an iMac I could not deny that there is something inharently better about the platform.
As far as crashes, I can say this. Thanks to the lastest versions of OSX there are 1) no more extentions and 2) its alot more stable now. Now very few of our calls are crash related. the ones that are, well its usually like some stupid printer or scanner software causing it. 99% of the time when I pick up the phone its now just someone saying [hick voice]"How do I copy one of those CDs on this iMac thing?"[/hick voice] -
This is a joke yes?
Go with the flow......SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

The whole point of the proprietery nature of the mac is that is promotes stabilty, as Apple has a lot of control over the hardware. You cannot tell me you've never had stabiltiy issues with Windows, a single PCI card has to work with thousands of chipsets / motherboards, thats bound to cause problems. I remember Mircosoft support told me once that even if you are using only Mircosoft Certifed hardware and drivers it still may not work correctly or be 100% stable..... After 5 years of Windows I've given up.
Also next week Apple is rumoured to be announcing a new processor for future Macs, the IBM PowerPC970 - possibly... This processor in a single chip configuration will be faster than the faster PC available.
Once you've tried a Mac you don't go back.

Macs are great systems, but there was now way to REALLY use the power of the system the way YOU wanted to.
I haven't used OSX yet but with it's *nix underpinnings, I'm positive that has changed.
If not for the price, I'd have one now!
