I have just captured a tv-show in AVI_IO. I used the PicVideo codec, with the best quality setting.
The show is about 15 minutes so AVI_IO have to create segments on my WinME Fat32 system.
Just when the show is finishing at the end texts, AVI_IO freezes. I reboot an see it has created 2 segments, capture.00.avi and capture.01.avi. Each is about 4GB. The capture.01.avi segment is working properly and it got everything from the middle of the show to the end texts. However the capture.00.avi part only got the first 837 frames though it is a 4gb file!?
I tryed the VirtualDub "repair avi" solution from vcdhelp.com, but it only re-indexes the first 837 frames and not the whole 1st half. How do i fix the file???

Your can set avi_io to your desired size of capture file. As you only have a windows 9x derivative you best setting this in capture preferences to 2048.
It will create a 4GB file but you cannot open it unless you have windows 2000. The headers probally scrambled any way.

You might not be able to open it succesfully on your windows 9x setup. You wil have to transfer the file to NTFS and windows 2000 and try to split or fix the file.

The best solution is to recapture.

  3. try to run the scandisk, sometimes it will create a *.chk files them rename it to .avi and open with virtual dub, sometimes it works. I´ve been having this problem since I download the version 3.20.
