  1. i opened up my .avi in virtualdub, and i got an error message saying to decompress my entire audio stream, and re-compress it with a constant bitrate encoder.

can someone tell me where i can find a "constant bitrate encoder"?

    thanks,

To compress audio into WAVE or MP3, try Goldwave. To compress it into Ac3, try HeadAC3.

VirtualDub is just telling you that the VBR MP3 audio in your AVI is encoded incorrectly. To fix it, you set your AUDIO menu to "Full Processing Mode". From the FILE menu, select FILE | SAVE AS WAV. It will prompt you for a filename. Be aware these uncompressed WAV files can be over a gigabyte in size. Make sure you have enough space to save the file.

The WAV file that is created will need to be converted to a compatible format. If your creating a VCD/CVD/ or SVCD, you can simply convert it to MP2. If you are creating a DVD, I would suggest you use AC3.

Download BeSweet and BeSweet GUI from the TOOLS section to convert your WAV to any of these formats.
