Uhm... I've ran into a slight problem...

I ripped a DVD using MackemX's nice guides on howto remove the extras from the DVD using ifoedit and getting it to work with instantcopy.

Everything worked like a charm, checked with nero in DVD Movie mode so it didn't complain about anything then I burned the DVD using CopyToDVD.
Also tested with powerdvd before burning it.

Happy, thinking I've gotten everything right, I inserted the DVD in my Pioneer DV-350 player and it recognized the DVD and all... but it almost instantly returned to the Pioneer screen instead of going to the dvd root menu.
So I tried pressing the root menu button and then the DVD started just fine.

I'm a bit confused as the very same DVD, encoded with DVD2One worked just fine (I did skip the "InstantCopy List index out of bounds error guide" when i burned with DVD2One but the rest is done in the same way).

Now my question is, what went wrong here?
BTW, I think I read somewhere that the first title (copyright message/logo) that pops up before the menu pops up can't be removed if the dvd should play correctly, is that true?
Born to frag... whoops, wrong forum. :)

what DVD is it and what exactly have you removed?

does the DVD play on your PC or another standalone? cos I'm sure that Pioneer is a fussy one

All it is doing is looking for something that ain't there

you could manually change the IFO's 1st play to go direct to the Main Menu. This may be helpful in future projects cos it will ensure that you at least get to the menu automatically without pressing the button

I removed the intro logo and some extras that was in some vts_02,03.04,05 files... maybe the intro logo is the problem?!
Some extras and copyright messages are in the video_ts.vob file, don't quite know how to get rid of those without messing anything up so I didn't touch them.

How do I make the DVD go directly to the root menu like you said, sounds useful?

The DVD plays in my PC, I don't have anything else to test it with right now...

    PS.
I don't think I'll waste more time on this DVD now, at least it's almost working.
    DS.

    Update:
I manage to find out how to change the VIDEO_TS "First Play PGC" setting, I pointed the "Pre command" using "JumpSS VMGM" to PGC1 (instead of PGC7 which there obviously was some problem with).

I also managed to remove the extras in the VIDEO_TS.VOB, it wasn't that hard but a bit tricky to know what I could remove and not.

Someone should write a guide about First Play PGC and stuff, it's really good to know... and in case there's such a guide that I didn't manage to find then make it easier to find.

Lesson for today - Always test-burn using DVDRW media before burning to DVDR. Even if you think you got everything right!
