  1. Hello, I just tried ripping the vobs from a dvd for conversion to xvid and one of the vobs had no sound when it played so when dvd2avi ripped the audio for all the vobs the length of the track was like 40 mins shorter. It says there is no audio in dvd2avi for that vob and when i play the vob directly in power DVD it plays no audio. I noticed that the extras had no sound as well when ripped them but I didnt worry too much as I just wanted the movie. I ripped the movie with smart ripper and as I said its that one vob that has no sound. Has anyone seen this problem before and maybe know what can be done because when playing off the dvd it plays fine.

    Thanx

  2. Repeat the steps again with DVD2AVI, maybe you made a mistake. Also, if you used DVD2AVI, the audio should have came out as a .mpa file ... and a .d2v for the video, then try your conversion. This time, pay more attention to the audio. Try playing bunt VOB'S onto your PC. If that doesn't work, you'll know somethings up with your DVD player.

  3. No the thing is its not a problem with dvd2avi cuz the vob itself has no sound when playing directly off the HD in Power DVD so it wasnt ripped with any sound. I just mentioned dvd2avi because of the audio track it did make. I thought maybe dvd2avi would find some audio but there is none present with the vob. But as I said the dvd works fine in my dvd player when playing normally.

    Thanx

  4. I doubt that you ripped the VOB files without audio. More then likely the problem is trying to play the VOB files directly, instead of playing the DVD based on the VIDEO_TS.IFO file. Many DVDs with multiple audio tracks 'can act funny' when you just play the VOB files in WMP et.al.

Do you rip with smartripper? If so if sould have generated a text file with info on all the streams, or you can use DVD Toolbox or another app to determine what streams are contained in the VOB files (according to the VIDEO_TS.IFO file).

For the record, you didn't try to demux anything. You just ripped the DVD as normal correct.

  5. why does dvd2avi say that there is no audio then when I open just that vob and preview it. Dvd2avi reports having an audio track for all the other vobs. And all the other vobs have sound when played directly in powerDVD. I tried opening the movie with the ifo by placing a video_ts folder in the root dir of my HD and then opening the ifo but nothing happened. If there is audio how do I get to it.

I used demux all in dvd2avi to try and find the missing track and that didnt do anything either. I just got some soundtracks in different languages.

    Madhatta.

Ok I have been tinkering around with dvd2avi some more and when I try to demux the audio from just that vob I get three sound files one is in another language and is about the length of the vob and the other two are sounds from 3 minutes towards the end of the vob when a new little story begins. They are both about 3 mins long and one is in another language one is in english. Vob is about 28 mins there is a two tracks in another language that equal about 25 and 3 respectively and then the one english track that is 3 mins so i am thinking that there must be a 25 min english track somewhere to go with it. Does anyone know what I can do to look at the layout? I pressed demux all in dvd2avi but I dont know if that would do it.
