alright.... i have a 717mb file that i want to burn to a vcd..... this is what i have tried....
extract audio with virtualdub.... then use tmpg to make mpeg... and then use vcdeasy....

but when i use tmpg ... i get like a 900mb file.... do i really really have to split the file.... or is there another way to do this ... or am i doing something wrong?????? i used the basic vcd guide thats on this site as a guide... .

when you convert a divx to mpeg it will always be bigger in size after that unless you use a very low bitrate and loose quality
if your file is around 900mb inc video and sound then buy a 900 mb cd and burn it with vcdeasy i have done it a lot of times.
another thing do you want to convert the file so you can see it on the standalone dvd player if not and you only want to see it on the pc you can burn the file (717mb) on to a cd as it is (divx) just burn it as data to the cd 8)
    go for it

If you want to get a whole movie on one CD then check the convert section for a guide (it's there). You will have to adjust the bitrate to fit but if you use 2-pass VBR encoding then you can preserve quality while lowering the size.

BTW, mpeg filesize depends on bitrate and length in time, the filesize of the source is irrelevant.

  4. Try the KVCD templates for TNMPEG.

I've managed several one disk VCDs from 700+ Divx, full DVD resolution. I use the Plus ones, the mpeg1 or mpeg 2 work well. Then use VCD easy with 2336 byte sectors to create and burn the image. VCDs will support an image just over 800MB in size.
Of course if your DVD player does not support KVCD your out of luck, test first. Both my DVD players work flawlessly.

If the image will not fit use TNMPEG's MPEG tools to split it into two and burn two VCD's. With which you can make two VCDs out of your 900MB file as well. (The KVCD's look better than real VCDs or SVCDs)
