  1. Im am trying to create a Divx directly from a DVD. To make a long story short, the bitrate calculator is pretty exact when the target is vcd or svcd, however, when i use divx as target output, and specify the lenght of film and the audio compression (in this case i was using mp3 224kb/s), the number it spits out to fit on one 80 min cd is like 781 kb/s .

Next, in Vdubmpeg2, i load the first vob files, and check the box that says "detect and add additional segments." But when i preview the input, the length of the film is only equal the movie contained in the first vob file
, so it appears that it did not detect or add any of the other vob files. This is one problem that i am having

The other trouble i am having is that when i select the audio compression as mp3 224kb/s (as i used in the calculator), and specify the bitrate as 781 in vdub, even if i only convert the first vob file that was added (there are 6 altogher), the output file is too small for even six vobs to fill one cd, so there also seems to be a discrepancy in the number that my calcualtor spits out and to what the actual bitrate should be to fill one cd.

Solutions to either of these problems would be helpful, or even if someone could describe a better way to convert from dvd to divx, thanks. :P

if i understand it right, your riping while the dvd is in the drive.you shouldn't do that.it builds a lot of heat whitch damages the drive.
rip to the hard drive then rip to divx.

i dont trust a bitrate calculator since every dvd is different.
i use gordian knot which has a bitrate calculator built in.almost all of my rips are right on the mark for size.it uses vdubmod.
i've never had a problem having dvd2avi detecting all the vobs.
