I recently purchased some old "DIVX" movies that were sold through Circuit City. I thought I could view them or possibly convert them to a different video format. However each time I try i get a message that my player or computer is not equipped to play "DIVX" movies.
Can someone help me determine how I can go about either converting or just viewing this format? I have a "DIVX" player installed on my computer, but still cannot view these movies. It seems to be protected in some way.
Any help or advise is greatly appreciated.![]()

The original CC DIVX was a separate format. As far as I know, you can't play these on anything except the orignal CC DIVX players.
The "Divx" player you have on your PC has an interesting history. The original DivX;-) codec was a hacked version of the Microsoft MPEG-4 codec and the name "DivX" was a play on the CC DIVX name. DivX is somewhat more respectable now...

I'm afraid you got scammed. The Divx system was a rental alternative where you would buy the discs and they would only work for a couple of days. You have to have a Divx DVD player and it has to check into the Divx system to play the discs. That system doesn't exist anymore - it went belly up quite a while ago. So there's no way to play the discs unless there's a hack somewhere. I'm not aware of such a hack. Doh!
