  1. WTF?! Im just at a loss, speachless to see how horrible the setup is for this device.

Basically, I cant get the 8500DV to capture, ANYTHING. No MPEG, no MPEG2, no DVD, no AVI. What it does is capture the first few seconds of video, then it "studders" the video over and over again. It looks like a record thats skipped, and I really dont know what to do since their support center is closed on the weekends.

Other software (such as DScaler) does not even see the WDM Capture Device, so its pretty obvious that this setup has been hosed horribly.

Ive followed the guide, and removed the Registry settings as well as deleted the ATI Folders. But that didnt work.

Ive re-installed Win2K twice now, each time im runing SP3, DX9 as well as the VIA 4 in 1 drivers prior to running the drivers/installs.

Is there anything else I should be doing?

  2. Ok, ive suddenly noticed a small link at the very bottom of the Drivers page saying "Optional ATI Software".

    http://mirror.ati.com/support/drivers/win2k/radeonopt-2k.html (For Win2k Users).

    http://mirror.ati.com/support/drivers/winxp/radeonopt-xp.html (For XP Users).

Reformatted again, I have done the following immediatly upon first boot.

    Installed Via 4 in 1
    Installed DX 8.1a (reboot)
    Installed DX 9.0 (reboot)
Installed WDM Capture Drivers (DID NOT REBOOT WHEN ASKED).
Installed the Radeon Display Drivers (reboot)

After boot up, it detected a bunch of WMD devices and installed them.

Installed the stupid Control Panel (reboot)
    Installed the dao-mdac

Attempted to install the atiCDwiz (DVD Decoder), but it wouldnt recognize my Install CD (which I just got yesterday, its brand ******* new, out of the box and it doesnt authenticate the CD as geniune!!), so no DVD decoder.

    Installed the MMC 8.5 (reboot)
    Installed the Hydravision (reboot)
    Installed the Remote Control (reboot)

Guess what? Heh, its gotten worse. I cant even load up the TV Application. Nothing happens when I double click on the file. The Ulead software just crashes when I attempt to capture, or even change the settings. This is probably due to the fact that I couldnt install the updated DVD decoder.

AMD Athlon (Slot1) 950Mhz 256 PC-133. Asus Motherboard (A7V?). I've got a USB mouse, a USB HP Scanner (not installed) and a USB HP Printer (not installed) connected to this PC.

Oh did i mention that my keyboard and occasionally my mouse die up reboot? It didnt happen when I had my old Matrox Marvel G200 installed in this PC.

don't you just love ati at times ?

(reminds me of installing creative soundblaster drivers a few years ago - on a dual cpu system)

sorry i have no help for you -- but you may want to ask this question at www.3dgameman.com where they have some people versed in ati lingo (if no answers here from the very knowlagable people on this forum)

  5. What version of MMC are you installing? I have a 8500DV and it works fine for me. It does give a bit of headache when you install it, but thats only if you use ATi's updated drivers. Use the included drivers and you should be fine.

  6. Well I was using both the 7.1 version as well as attemping to use the most recent 8.5 version.

But now things have improved. I am glad I have multiple PCs. I moved the card to my other (faster more recent) Athlon system and its working properly now. It was a total hassle having to swap cards, hard drives and install Win2k again (and the drivers) onto another system, but it worked.

The system which it didnt work on was one of the original Althon boards, Northbridge 750? I forget, I used to pay attention to these things, but....
