    Im a complete Newbie at Dvd so any help would be great..

    My Cd player has died in my PC and would like to upgrade to a DVD, is it possible to get one region free and macrovision disabled, if so which one would you recommend

    It doesn't really matter what brand you get, I have a cheap 12x one I've used for a long time and it still works.

    Do you know any makes that are region free and macrovision disabled or is this software controled or do you have to have it chiped or something

    try the Pioneer 106s(slot) 16x/40x, its been working great for me. I used the firmware patch to change the firmware from version 1.08(rpc2 -region locked) back to rpc1 -region free with the firmware update to 1.22(patched to change to rpc1) so now its region free
