  1. OK I have an ATI AIW 7500 which I use to capture from my DirecTV via S-Video cable. From most of the posts I have read on here everyone recommends to capture as an interlaced format, not deinterlaced, for viewing on TV. My problem is that when I capture as interlaced my video is sharp and clear for most scenes that don't have motion. Once the camera pans horizontally or vertically, or there is a lot of motion on the screen at once I experience tearing, or ripping of the video. Its like I can see half of the scan lines and they arent keeping up with the motion. Its hard to explain I guess. Maybe someone knows what Im talking about. It only happens when I watch it on TV. It looks fine on the PC. I use MMC8.5 with my own custom settings as follows. MPEG-2 SVCD, 480x480, Encode Interlaced, 48k 16bit audio, PFrames=4, BFrames=2, VBR min 3.15m max 9.4m, motion estimation quality 100, Video Soap filter= Sports-High Motion, Combo Filter 1 @ 60%. Maybe some of my settings need to be adjusted to solve this problem. I thought it may have been the motion estimation quality but anything between 0-100 doesnt seem to make a bit of difference.

  2. It sounds like the field order of the finished product is incorrect. When I encode with TMPGENc, I use field order A, which when viewed on the TV gives no scan lines, jitters, or "tears".

  3. How do I use "field order A" with ATIs MMC8.5? I don't see a way to set this option. Is it possible? Does anyone else out there with an ATI card know how to do this?
