Does anyone know of a good guide somewhere on how to fit two movies on one dvd with a lot of compression obviously.
I have read something on it before but what i read made no sense to me whatsoever.
Where i get stuck is when you rip the movie you get the vob files named 'VTS_01_1, VTS_01_2, VTS_01_3' and so on with other files also, they are saved to a folder of your choice, then you rip the second movie and have exactly the same named files which you cant just drop into the same folder as they are named exactly the same, what is it i have to do from there, its obvious you have to rename the new vobs 'VTS_01_4 and so on' till you renamed them all, but the dvd just wont see the second movie or play it....
Hope this makes sense lol.
Any help appreciated.

That would take a lot of explaining if you are new to this, I'd check out some of the guides on this site, and if you get stuck then tell us which bit you don't understand and we'll do our best.

Northstar
The method I use is with DVD2one and DVDtoolbox.
1 Transcode each movie with DVD2one in seperate folders (2.15 gigs each).
2 Delete all the VIDEO_TS files and rename the files in the 2nd folder to VTS_02_x.xxx.
3 Move those files to the first folder and run DVDtoolbox.
4 Set source = first folder.
5 Click Create Video Manager (VIDEO_TS.IFO).
That's it... you have 2 movies which can have multiple audio tracks and subtitles and original chapters will be intact. Also the screen formats can be different. Of course, no menu but can choose the title with the remote.

It needn't be complex.
This is the method I use
dvd2one set at 2200 meg.
compress movie only to their respective folders. movie1 - movie2
I use tmpegenc dvd author software
open up tmpegenc authoring software and insert both movie folders
Create a basic menu - it is very intuitive software to use. and there is a free trial.
Allow the software to create a compliant dvd to a third folder - movieboth
It will automatically create a VIDEO_TS folder for you.
Create an empty AUDIO_TS folder for compatibility with older burners.
burn the dvd using you favorite burning software. I use recordnowmax.
Enjoy.
I have found animated movies (ice-age, etc) quite acceptable at 2200 meg. Non animated movies can look awful at the level of compression.
Best of luck -
Sounds a bit more complex than it should but i'll give it a go, and thanks for the replies, im sure i'll get it now

Just a small question on file size in dvd2one.
I was just wondering if i can max out the file size to 4.38gig or do i need to leave a little space to copy the files to dvd... any idea?
I would just be trying this by putting them onto a dvd but i dont have my writer at the moment so im just converting the files on my hardrive for copying later.
Thanks. -
So any ideas.... anyone?
Can i use the whole 4.38gb of diskspace on a dvdr or do i have to leave a bit of space for finalizing the disk, if so how much?
Thanks -
I use the standard 4472 on dvd2one1.11 and it still gives it enough room after finalizing, roughly 15-30 mbs left when you go to burn it which I use Record Now DX.
