  1. I have a Dual Processor server and was upset that Ulead did not support
both my processors on my system. I did some digging on Ulead's site and
found that you can add a line to the product ini file to enable both CPUs.
This was stated only for the Video Studio software and not there other titles. You open the ini for your product and enter the following into the file:
    Under the section:
    [VIODRIVER]
    Add this line:
    ForceWriteThreadMode=1
I tried this with Video Studio 7, DVD Workshop, and Movie Factory 2 and
it worked with all of them. I achieved a 20 to 40% decrease in processing
time. I hope this info can help someone else.

Hey, I have to congratulate you on your first post to this forum being one that offers useful information.

Typical of Ulead though isn't it

  3. Hey man,

Actually, those software products of Ulead don't utilize dual processor's to my knowledge. However, the new ULEAD Media Studio Pro 7 which I have does, and it supports Hyper-Threading Technology, and if you have a Maxtor Parehlia card or the ATI Radeon Series that includes 128MB DDR card that increases performace as well. I can re-encode a 30 min episode edited off TV with a Constant 8MB data rate in about 7 minutes. Totally worth it.

    Thanks!

  4. Interesting. I have a dual Athlon system but using Instant Copy also does not utilise both CPU's. I wonder if a similar hidden setting exists?

One thing about hyper thread CPU's is that more programs should start to support them which should mean better support for my dual system

    I wish you were correct!!!
I have seen that DUAL CPU and Hyper Threading are 2 completely different functions!!
The software has to physically support DUAL CPUs. Hyperthreading is
using a single CPU, but a software call making it look like 2 processors!

  6. I thought they were related as our XEON (only 1 CPU installed) shows under windows as having 2 cpu's.

Doesn't the operating system allocate the resources as long as the program uses multiple threads like Tmpenc can be set up to do.

It would be interesting to hear from someone with a P4, does TMPEnc detect 2 CPU's ?

I guess I'll have to read up on it a bit more.
