Hey everyone,
Long time vistor 1st time poster. WEll, I got myself a NAPA DAV 311 player about a week ago. I have to say I really enjoy it. It eats up the batteries pretty quite but I just carry a extra pack when I go joy riding and listenng to my mp3s.
Anywho I didn't want ot post about the NAPA playing mp3s ... I wanted to post about NAPA playing a Ripped DVD.
Well After 3 days of reading every site known to man about DVDs, how to rip them, how to burn them to VCDs, and so on. I have burnt my CD-RW sop many times I am surprised I haven't burnt a hole in it yet, LOL.
Now, I used this help site with the ripping and got an idea of how to get it going. I used VCDHelp as well but this site --> http://www.dvdripguides.com/ helped me a lot. I used all the programs they listed there. Nothing but those programs.
Now, I followed every step till I got to Step 3 which was the part that had you encode the file to mpg(with TMPGEnc). I did some changing around and made my own Template to make DVD to VCD, which by chance worked wonders. Now, I only used one movie for this and I did use all sorts of settings and all sorts of different formats and movies. But for DVD I used only one movie which I borrowed from a family friend.
You can get the template at http://www.hardcoreheadz.com/data/dvd2vcdtemp.zip
Now, there is very very little jerking around and choping with the settings I have used(from what I have noticed so far). I did noice some though and there is a trick to bypassing this for you NAPA player. When it starts becoming jerky or choppy puase the movie wait 5 to 10 seconds and unpause it. That should fix the jerking and chopping of the movie for sometime and then repeat if it keeps happening.
Now the template and the settings I used do not take away jerking and choping totaly away ... remember I only used it on 1 DVD and it worked very well on my Divx movies as well.
Also before you press "Start" make sure to UNCHECK "DETECT SCENE CHANGE" also make sure the "Source Aspect Ratio" is set correctly. Everything else should be fine and left as is.
For the people who know a thing or two about DVD Ripping, please test this and et me know if it works for you. As a matter a fact anyone who wants ot please try it and if you change anything let me know so I cna review it and tet it myself. NAPA Players are very good but they have their goods and bads ... so lets try to find a way to kill the jerky/block/choppy look!
