This might help if you haven't already one it:

Disable all other audio sources in your computer except
from Line In. To do this go to Control Panel -> Sounds
and Audio settings. Open the Advanced Volume Controller.
Choose from the menu Options -> Properties and click
for Recording. If there or any other source then Line In,
    deselect them.

If that didn't help try this: In VirtualDub, choose Audio and click for Full Streaming (or which ever corresponds to that). Open the settings for audio compression and choose at least 44100 Hz and 96 kbps.

    Hope I've helped.

Depending on your sound card, you may require a driver update or system patch.

Is the background noise audible through normal TV viewing using the supplied software or is it present only during capturing?

I experienced a similar problem with a VIA 686 chipset which is covered in this thread.

  4. Ive got onboard sound that I think Is the root of the problem.Ive got a m599lmr super socket 7 pc100board or at least I think that is what the boards called.lol
I think I've figured a way to take the high pitched buzzing out of the files with soundforge by smoothing the sound.I've still got to play with it to get it perfect, but have managed to take the annoying sound out.thanks for the help.
