  1. I'll try to keep it simple in this 1st post. I am using DVDX 2.2 to convert a DVD "I OWN" to SVCD. I am using easyvcd 1.1.4 to burn the SVCD. I first burnt it to a CD-RW to test it. My DVD player is an X-wave that I got from Earthlink (model of DVD player??) The Burning to the CD-RW was a success, however in my DVD player, the audio cuts off about every 4-5 seconds and the video sometimes freezes or the audio and video get out of synch. However, the same SVCD plays great on my computer with PowerDVD. I have some other HIGH QUALITY SVCDs that do play perfectly on my X-wave DVD. I then used DVDX to convert the DVD to AVI encoding to DIVX 4.12 and the audio to wave. I then used TGMPenc to encode that AVI to a SVCD and I then I burnt that SVCD again to the CD-RW and it played just fine in my XWAVE. I assume something is awry with the DVDX DVD to SVCD and I don't know what or where to start. Anyone have any suggegestions
No, it came with the frame.

  2. DVDx's encoding isn't the highest quality, although it is a nice all-in-one set of application, but if you want better compatibility and less trouble, I suggest you use the long way to encode to SVCD.

  3. I thought the quality was very good. I thought roughly 8 hours to make the backup was a long time and you said in your post " I suggest you use the long way to encode to SVCD." What is the LONG WAY... I thought I just took it. However, I do THANK YOU for your response.
No, it came with the frame.

Don't compare you standalone DVD player with your software players like WinDVD or powerdvd they can play just about anything even if it's competely off spec. Your home player will be more sensitive.

Post some of your settings (framerate, framesize, audio settings etc...) in case it's another problem.

The medium way (a bit longer but not the long way)... is to frameserve the output of DVDx to tmpgenc if you have the plus version (or some other mpeg2 encoder) and adjust your settings in the encoder (tmpgenc). You can also use some of the templates in the tools section found on this site. This method provides the best of both worlds. The advantage is that you don't need a lot of hd space but can still use a different encoder if you don't like the DVDx built-in one.

I'll let someone else explain the long way since I rarely use it for (x)(s)vcd
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

I get excellent SVCD results with DVDX 2.2, and I burn with Nero and use 2 90 minute CD's.

You can use the bitrate adjustment in DVDX to fill the CD's depending on
    the length of the movie.

But I do use Tmpgenc" Simple Multiplex" VBR to reduce the file size by5% so they fit onto a 90 minute 800 MB CD'R ( Set to 934MB in DVDX)

    Great software, great results!.

  6. Here are some settings for DVDX. audio ac3 2CH High quality 48KHz to 44.1KHz. Audio bitrate 224 video bitrate 2376 29.97NTSC SVCD Motion search fast Output video 480x480 YUY2 resize(nearest neighbour). Anything I left out? The output gave me three mpeg2 files of which I tested one to a CD-RW at 4X with VCDEASY. I've yet to test the other two mpeg2 files, I guess I should do that. Maybe it's just one file I got a problem with. ARE there any settings you need to know from VCDeasy, if so, ask. Thanks for the replies
No, it came with the frame.

  7. One other thing I forgot to mention. I have those mpeg2 files. I have some other mpeg2 files I encoded with Tmpgenc 2.59.46.155 from an Avi file I captured from VHS using virtualdub 1.5. When I try to open those files in the merge/cut section of the mpeg tools in tmgpenc, I get the error, could not obtain the length of the movie with direct show 0x80004001. What's going on here. I am doing google searches on this at the moment with no luck yet. Thanks....later...
