i have Asus 8200 Delux video card...
i bought it 2 years ago because i wanted to be able to capture video.

the color and contrast it gives is not Cap , it's crap !!!

    just look here:
    http://www15.brinkster.com/grayart/cap.htm

i tried to play with the lightness/contrast ... but the card itself just don't read most of the mid-tones!

can anyone suggest a card that can give me good picture guality ...
i don't care about MPEG2 or any of this ...
i just need a card that will capture video (in AVI) that has the same color and contrast quality as seen on TV...

the frame i gave the link for was captured from tv...
when i capture from VHS you can't even see the face , and everything is all yellow ....

what card will give me the best image colors ?
(i need one that i can use also under windows XP)
(it can be a TV card as well)

what do you think of AvarMadia cards ?

    thanks

    Hi,

I bought the 8200 for games and other stuff and didn't think too much about capturing then. I'm glad because, as you've also found out, the captures are too poor for anything but time-shifting game shows etc. where quality doesn't matter -- I didn't feel burned because it wasn't part of my purchase decision.

When I got hooked on capturing, I bought the Dazzle Hollywood Bridge because it was the best at the time (IMHO) which was before Canopus, etc. came along. A friend and I send both our Bridges back for warranty replacement and got back the (then) latest versions. These have worked very well for us since. Specifically we don't have any problems with audio sync or dropped frames.

I suggest you consider this class of capture device -- which transfers into the computer via firewire for the very best possible captures. Just search the "capture card" section with a "firewire" criterium to get a list. From what I've read here I'd buy the Canopus ADVC100 if I was buying now.

    Regards

    Allan

i don't think firewire card can help me ...
since i need a card that will capture the signal from cable or satellite.

or does firewire cards can capture these signals as well ? ?

    Hi,

Allan is suggesting the Canopus ADVC-100 as a solution. It's an external unit into which you feed your video signal (composite or s-video). This has an internal hardware codec to convert the analogue signal into a DV data stream.

The ADVC-100 connects to your computer via a firewire connection. You use a suitable capture program to read the data stream and copy it to your hard drive as an AVI file.

    I hope this helps.

    Ian.
