When I try to add a transition between clips in Premiere, I get a message that reads: "The FX track is blocked. The effect cannot be inserted". What am I doing wrong? Advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I've dug through the manual and "Classroom in a Book" and played with the program for hours trying to figure this one out. This only seems to happen with clips that I've captured with my Canopus ADVC-50, but I've not yet tested that conclusively.

This one sounds familiar but the old mind is running slow.
Try shifting your material from the video1 track to the video2 track and see if you get a fix. -
OK, I've figured it out.
The problem was that in the Load Project Settings Dialog Box, I had my project set for "DV-NTSC" when it should have been "DV-NTSC real-time preview". I hope this helps if anyone else has the same problem. BTW, if I remember correctly, Premiere 6.0 or earlier didn't include the "real-time preview" as an option. Many thanks to those who took the time to reply!

mtgoat,
Did you find an explanation for why this should happen? It would seem not selecting Real Time Preview should have no effect on your ability to add a transistion. -
I have no clue why it works this way. It makes no sense to me either. I only stumbled upon the solution out of desperation because I had tried about everything else. Sometimes you just get lucky.
