  2. Did you look to the left under "Edit"? There are a million and one programs that can do this (note avi and DivX are not the same thing )

I personally like VDub, Vegas Video, and Ulead Media Studio.

  5. the reason i don't want to use virtualdub is because it always cuts out more than i want from a video. i tried to save that video and then edit it to shorten the length but it doesn't work the second time for some reason. can someone tell me why?

  6. Vdub will probably jump to the nearest key frame and save to there..

You can also use TMPGEnc file > output to file > AVI
    Just use the source range.

Yes, Vdub will always start a segment at a Key frame, so if you try to cut in between it will revert to the last previous.

  10. using source range, i am experiencing sound problem with a certain avi that i d/l.

i noticed that as i edit, the audio display showed no sound level, just a flat line...as i encode a sample ...sure enough..no sound.

the avi plays with sound using mplayer or divx.

i check with GSpot to see if there was something wrong with the avi...nothing?

i even tried to de-multiplex the file...only to get a big sound file of silence?

i am using TMPGEnc plus 2.5 and was wondering if there is any problems that is inherent to this version? or has anyone experienced this type of situation and how was it solved?

    i'm truly puzzled.

Gspot doesn't tell you if something's wrong, it only checks the codecs required by the file and if your system has them installed. So what did it say under audio for codecs? Is it installed? Is it AC3 sound? If it's AC3 then make sure you have the codec installed first, extract the sound to a wav file using Goldwave (check the Tools section and guides) and use the wav file as your audio source for TMPGEnc.

  12. I can edit 100% in VirtualDub. There's none of that key problem.
I edit the cut using frame by frame move, it's perfect.
It just need some extras, like fade.
