Here's the story...I take an original dvd of mine, rip it with DVDDecryptor, compress or extract the movie with either DVDShrink or Instant Copy, burn it with Instant Copy or RecordNowMax, and when I go to copy my copy, I get CRC Errors in Xp. If I go to rip that copy with DVDDecryptor or SmartRipper, I get Sector Errors. Everything seems to play fine with the disc though. Can anyone help me?? I'm using XP and my ASPI layer is 4.71.2. Sometimes the copy can take hours to rip. I don't understand what's going on. The discs are new\mint with no dust or scratches on them at all.
Thanks!!!

Looks like a sort of copy protection to me. When you play this dvd the player ignores the Error Detection / Correction Code. During ripping this information is used and the player tries to solve this by retrying to read the sectors over and over. Therefor it takes a very long time to rip this CD/DVD.
In the process of copying CD/DVD, reading of the original is a difficult part, specially when the material is copy protected.
I do not know the software you are ripping with, but try to look for something to switch of Error Detection Code and rip again.

Thanks for the post but actually, the original rips fine. It's the backup that I am having trouble with. The backup plays fine and looks good, but when I go to rip it, that's when the errors happen. Any insight??

Well, it started out with RecordNowMax doing the verification and failing. Then I started to look at some of my backups. I started to rip them and errors came up. I tried to copy directly from the dvdr and same thing. I also did some mp3 dvdr's up and I there were a few songs that wouldn't copy back because of the crc errors but yet they play. This is happening to a good precentage of my backups. Anyone have any ideas???

I tried using smartripper but it stopped at a point and the DVD drive seemed to be trying to read over and over for more than 15 minutes. I cleaned the DVD but it still not doing it. Any other ideas? Are there any settings I need to pay attention to? Thanks.

I used Smartripper too and it does see the errors as well. Now question, do you see these errors come up when you watch the backup?? I don't so the sector must still be written to the disc and not replaced. Can anyone verify this??
