  1. I have a simple question about using pulldown.exe. I have an avi that is 23.976fps and I need to convert it so that it is 29. Do I convert the file to mpg and then run the pulldown.exe on the converted file? I am having problems getting tmpgenc to do the pulldown so I wanted to use something different and I saw info about pulldown.exe. I am looking at converting the file with the 23.976fps as progressive and then use the pulldown afterwards. Would that work?

Yes that is how it works. Just set TMPGenc to 23.976fps. On the encode mode you can use either 3:2 pulldown while playback or progressive, it won't matter since you play on adding the pulldown flags later. Just make sure and don't set it to interlaced. Only encode the video by itself. This is because pulldown.exe only accepts m2v elementary streams and not mpgs. Pulldown's default settings will add the pulldown flags, but I recommend getting the gui for ease of use. Once its done, multiplex your new video stream with your encoded audio.

Just to clarify. 3:2 pulldown flags can only be added to mpeg2 streams. If you are encoding in mpeg1 than the dvd player should automatically telecine the movie to 29.97.
