I have been searching for a program to do this and I stumbled across one. It's called Simple DVD. It is made by a company called pixel tools (www.pixeltools.com) ....it looks like it will only convert video that already has the correct proportions (720 x 480). I downloaded a demo and will post whether it works.

  2. Short answer is it can't be done. You have to encode the avi to a DVD valid MPEG2 file, then author the VOB files. With that said there are several programs (eg. Ulead) that can do this for you. Most people perfer to use seperate programs to capture, encode, author, and burn. As this gives you more control and options. But there are programs that have all these features bundled together.

It is not bundled software (hence the 1500 dollar price for the full version). It is a single piece of software.....I just tried it with a 720 x 480 avi and it appears to work...It created the vob's on my hard drive.
