  1. What do you all recommend? I have a Panasonic RP-62 right now that I love, but it is very finicky with my DVD-Rs. It plays some but others the audio and picture has glitches. I put those same DVD-Rs in the Apex in my bedroom and they play flawlessly. I need a good prog-scan DVD player with Component out that is very good at reading DVD-Rs. I am primarily using Verbatim, but I have tried many different brands and all have some audio glitches on my RP-62.

Personally, for what you want id recommend

Apex-AD250 fot if off of ebay for around 80.

The thing is freaking awesome!!!!!!!!! I also have an apex 5131 because it sports a 3 disk changer, the two are very nice, and its hard to compare them (playback wise)

but the AD-2050 does have what you are looking for.

See what you think use the link above

  3. Here is a link that maybe helpful for decision-making. Scroll down to "DVD Hardware" There is a wealth of information here.

You might also want to do a search on "chroma bug". It is something to be careful of if you are looking for a progressive scan DVD player. The bug is essentially jagged edges on brightly colored objects. This is apparent because of the improved picture quality a progressive scan player produces.

You didn't mention price, but Ihave a Denon DVD-1600 and it is wonderful. No chroma bug , plays DVD-R and produces a spectacular picture quality. You can probably get new for $400-$450- or refurbished at $250+/-.

    Hope this is helful.

i don't want to spend more than $200, and i want to buy it at best buy or circuit city or target and take it back if it doesn't play DVD-rs correctly.

Last i checked circuit city had the apex player. Not sure about the progressive scan one, but definatly the 5131.

if you get it from walmart's website you can return it at any local walmart, again the 5131 model

works great for my applications and have yet to have it not playback a dvd-r i have made.

  6. i ended up buying a Sony NS725P from Circuit City for $150.

It plays EVERY one of my DVD-Rs, flawlessly. Needless to say I am happy, because the progressive output is excellent. Thanks again!

    Here's a review I found

You get what you Pay for. This is no Apex!! This makes your video jump out and audio sound great. Video is correctable on really bad copies of cdr's and audio is also, the remote is very responsive and when you tell it to do something it asks for more.
Two thumbs up! Do it right the first time and buy this. SVCD-and VCD's work like you've never seen them.

Good choice! Though, it doesnt play XSVCD which most of my collection are, but im slowly converting them over to dvdr so pretty soon that function will be obselete!
    Sony makes a good player!

    Hope you like it
