  1. I just created a mpeg-2 using TMPGenc. I created this by separating the audio and video and multiplexing them together and encoded. When I play this mpeg2 file in the windows media player it is fine in the beginning, but the audio goes out of synch towards the end of the video. But, when I play this same file in PowerDVD, it remains in synch throughout the whole movie. Is this normal or is there something wrong with my file? Which is a more accurate display of what would happen when played in a DVD player??

In my experience, WMP has a harder time playing ANY media file than a dedicated player, say Winamp fotr MP3 or PowerDVD for DVDs. Basically, PowerDVD is MUCH more accurate.

  3. My guess is that this would happen because Cyberlink's PowerDVD uses their own MPEG-2 codec, while Media Player just grabs whatever the first codec is that it finds on your PC. Cyberlink's codec is extremely reliable, and should be how it plays back on your set top DVD player.

I have to agree with ADS Ivan. During a fresh install of windows XP I had't installed Power DVD and tryed to play an MPEG that I could play before. Media Player refused to play it. Installed Power DVD and tried Windows Media Player again and whalla. So I guess it begs and borrows from where ever it can. Other than downloading Windows Media Player 9 again I have no shortcut to fixing your problem.

    A very common problem.
If you can play it successfully with PowerDVD then the file is fine.
WMP always has this issue, I have it too.
