Try using TMPGEnc for your conversion, it has a trial period for SVCD encoding, and to get the best quality on 2 disks you should use VBR mode. You will still have to follow the instructions in one of the guides as nobody will give you as much details as what they contain. If you still have problems then post a question under that particular guide, the authors usually are around to help you out.

  5. While DVD2SVCD gets the job done admirably, you might get to understand this stuff better if you got your hands dirty and did it "the hard way", so to speak.

    1. You'll want to strip the audio from the AVI into a separate WAV. See this VirtualDub tutorial. It explains exactly what you have to do. (It's easy)

    2. Download the TMPGEnc Templates from DVDHelp.us and use the one entitled "DVDHelp.us SVCD-CQ". Depending on the length of the video, you can adjust the CQ value however you see fit. (The higher the CQ, the better the picture, but the larger the filesoze...)

At high quality, I've found that 40-45 minutes per SVCD seems to have the best "quality to filesize" ratio. (This is the generally agreed upon size among the Usenet crowd as well.)

    3. Open TMPGEnc, use the template mentioned above, and be sure that the AVI is your video source, and your newly-created WAV file is your audio source.

Assuming you haven't got any issues with some oddball (ie - uncommon) codec, this should fix you right up.

  6. Ok, I'm an idiot looking for a guide. HYSTERIA82, I was following you up until you said "use this template". How do I use that template?

    Thanks,

You can either create them and save them in TMPGenc or download them to the folder in the TMPGenc folder called 'Template'. Then press the 'Load' button in TMPGenc ... or I think in the wizard mode it shows on the first screen when you select your project type.
