  1. Whew.. finally..

After trying about five other DVD players (Panasonic RV32 & 52, Toshiba, Sony, Phillips --Walmart, and Mintek 1600).. I've found a DVD player that plays MP3-DVD's perfectly, WITH long filename support (about 30 characters):

    Cyberhome CH-DVD 300. $48 from Radioshack.

Progressive scan. Plays mp3's PERFECTLY without glitches, clicks (e.g. as in Mintek 1600).. has played all my DVD-R's, CD-R's, VCD's, no problem. Will play unauthored mpegs..

This is a great DVD player, in my opinion. The only thing that could be better would be if it were a changer. But you can't ask for everything!

  2. Thanks for the post, that is most definately an interesting find! I just checked their website and it shows $58, did you buy locally or how did you get the $48 price? Thanks.

  3. Yeah, I bought it at a local Radio Shack..

    It was $58 - $10 rebate = $48.

Wow.. I'm still amazed -- this thing is like a music jukebox -- you can fit almost 100 CD/albums onto one DVD-R!!!

I have like 10 genres on one darn disc!

Is it possible for you to post a screenshot of the MP3 screen from your dvd player? I play some of my music off of my X-BOX, but you have to type in the name of each song one letter at a time which sucks!

  5. Sure, here you go.. you'll notice that there is a screenshot of a root folder full of tons of genres (each with many folders and subfolders).. pretty cool, ha?

a folder listing under a specific genre folder.. a MP3-DVD is so huge that for folders, i do root: genre --> artist --> album title --> songs.. crazy, eh?

.. a shot of an album's listing of songs, etc.

.. look how tiny this player is -- i wanna stuff it into my car's dashboard and never have to worry about music in the car, again!
(it's the tiny silver thing at the top..

Awesome! That is exactly what I was hoping for! Putting it in the car isn't a bad idea either.

  9. Yeah,

Putting it in the car would give you access to about 100 albums without even having to change the disc -- you could practically drive around the world one whole time..! ;)

I've never done something like this before -- I guess you'd need a power converter, amp, etc.. the real trick would be making it fit in the space and having some sort of method (LCD, etc.) to navigate folders..? anyone ever do anything like this?

If anyone else has the cyberhome 300 or gets it, let us know what ya think..

    Does it support programmable playlists?

I think this player is rare, not many manufacturers are chasing the mp3 spec for dvd, plus there were millions of them sold in the last few years that didnt support this function. You can get around this by using mpeg1 audio which Winoncd 6 will put into a dvd music album with a similar interface. I have put 700 songs on one this way, thats 50 albums!

  11. tygrus,

i don't think the cyberhome supports playlists. that would be nice if it did.

i never thought about using mpeg1 audio as a workaround for putting music on a dvd-r for a dvd player that doesn't support dvd-mp3.. but that's a good idea. how long does it take to convert?

If you are using just waves or mp3s as your sources files, WINONCD has to mux them and then re-encode each files to mpeg 1. Usually the encodes are at about 8x real time, so for a full DVD it could take a while, probably overnight I would imagine. I never really timed it. Its not something you would have to do that often. I am not even sure if I have 700 songs in my collection, but it sure would be nice to have them all on one disc.

  13. Wow! Thanks for the informative post about this player. This is exactly what I've been looking for. I have a In Dash Tv in my truck and this is going to go perfect in there. One question though. Whats the controller like for this unit? You think you could maybe post a picture of it? Thanks!

  14. I bought one of these players last week, too! It played back everything that I threw at it, EXCEPT DVD+RWs that were recorded on my Philips 985A (which, of course, has the proprietary Philips menuing!)!! All that this player showed when these DVDs were inserted was a list of the Video_TS and Video_RM folders (similar in look to the screenshots above--white lettering on a blue background), but I just could not get these discs to play in this machine. Of course, they play just fine in the 985A, as well as on my Panasonic RV-31 and PC DVD burner (HP300i) and DVD-ROM drive! Any ideas??!!

  16. Richkut,

That stinks that it doesn't play your DVD+RW's. It plays my DVD-RW's perfectly.. but I think I remember seeing something about it being picky about +RW's (nerd-out.com forums i think).

for those interested in more pictures, the link given by mp3superfreak is good -- it has pix of the unit, its remote, etc.

as for the individual asking about the remote.. interestingly enough.. i find this topic to be not so minor a point about DVD players -- you'd think that all these manufacturers wouldn't make the ergonomically-terrible remotes that they do (e.g. tiny rice-size buttons, etc.).. like how the navigational buttons are so often HUGE but the actual play control buttons being tiny (e.g. panasonics) -- do they forget that play, pause, and ff/rew are still probably the most oft-used buttons on these darn things..?

anyway, that being said -- the cyberhome has a decent remote -- yes, it's small (doh!), but the buttons are placed well.. and are uniform in size, shape, etc.. (not like having a huge navigational pad w/ tiny play buttons).. plus, i've programmed it into my master remote control without any problems, which is cool.

other than that, how are you liking the player? that does kinda suck that it's picky about DVD+RW's -- i find it nice to be able to burn a -RW before burning a -R straight. also, after using mine pretty heavily in the past few days.. i've noticed a couple minor points. first, i think it doesn't play mp3's that are longer than 30 minutes or so (i have some audio lectures that are 1 hour+ that it seems to play only the beginning from).. and i think there is an mp3 song/file limit of like 1200 per disc.. anything else anyone's noticed?

  17. Oooh my god.....

Just had a look at the website of Cyberlink. So they make this great play-everything-you-throw-at-it-dvd-player.... and forget to give it a decent scart-port and/or a optical audio output

I own an older cyberhome (M212)
Those players are good, BUT: You have to change manually the drive with another one. Cyber DVD Roms are the best solution (guess why...)
Then, both + and - are supported.

  19. cyberian:

Maybe I did NOT make myself clear about compatibility. While the Cyberhome set top DVD Player does NOT playback DVD+RWs recorded on my Philips 985A (I think, due to the proprietary menuing system), it DOES play +RWs recorded on my PC (HP300i burner), even those originally recorded on the 985 but later manipulated and authored on my PC and burned on the 300i! I posed my question to ask if anyone else has experienced and/or rectified this problem. My inquiry therefore stands.

  20. Psycho_Dad,

No, they don't have a SCART port but there ARE component video outs (for progressive scan playback). Is scart better than this? And no, there's no optical digital link but there IS a digital audio out. Is optical better than this..?

I have a CH-DVD 300 and it will not recognize +RWs. I use HP and Memorex +RWs, HP 200i, Nero to burn. They play on 3 other standalones I have. Was wondering what brand and program you use.

    To All

Minor note, If you burn mepgs in ISO mode, the extension must be .mpg not .mpeg or they will not be recognized. Oter players will see both.

SCARTs (or Euroconnectors) is for Europe only. US models don't have it. They don't even know this type of connection.

SCART is a french idea, followed by europe/middle east and partly other places in the world. Beyond others, it offers also RGB.

    Thanks for the info!
I had been looking at this player (even though I didn't really need yet another DVD player) due to its TINY size and great price for progressive scan DVD player that plays everything.
I was looking at them during lunch at RS. I picked one up tonight after reading that it would play DVD MP3s.

Just hooked it up less than 20 minutes ago.
Found a few MP3 DVDs I had burned a while back on crappy media and
the Princo disc plays fine. The KHypermedia doesn't seem to play, although it is recognized (might be the bitrate of the MP3s).
I now use only quality DVD media, but it is nice to know that even Princo works fine.

One question: What software and, more importantly, what settings do you use to burn DVD MP3s?

    Thanks again for the info!
    Quote Quote
  24. VEFF,

I too have KHypermedia DVD-R's but haven't tried them for MP3-DVD, yet.

Currently I use TDK DVD-R and DVD-RW burned on a Pioneer A04 2x writer. I haven't played around with software and burning methods too terribly much (I know some people on here have a lot of experience with doing that, but not me), but I use RecordNow 4.5 with just plain old DVD settings. I have read that you can use Nero as well, but have to be careful with versions as some versions (even certain new ones) will not burn DVD-R well.

If anyone else has any experience or suggestions with burning methods for MP3-DVD's I'd be interested in hearing! ;)

  25. Question regarding the Cyberhome CH-DVD 300:

    Can you random play .mp3's.
and if so, will it random play them through more than one folder?
