  1. Ladies and Gentlemen I need some help. I recently purchased an external case to put a 7200 60GB hard drive in to use with my Laptop running Win ME. The problem is I cannot get the drive to recognize under Win ME. I work mostly with XP on my desktop, so Win ME has me puzzled. How do you get the external drive to recognize with ME? It is connected via a 1394 Firewire cable. The drive was formatted when I put it in the case. I can't remember if it was NTFS or FAT32. In any case how do I get it to recognize? If anyone can help I would appreciate it! Thanks so very kindly!

    One more thing

It recognizes under the disconnect icon on the system tray, but does not recognize in My Computer. This has me perplexed!! (big word I've always wanted to use!!)

  3. Yes I know ME cannot read NTFS. That's why I am asking what utility is it that will allow me to format this drive?

You want to format an HDD?

    Boot up in MSDOS...

Type (Drive Letter of HDD) for example

    D:\ Format D:\
    or something like that

or D:\ Convert FAT32 or NTFS

I think thats the lines go..

control panel --> add/remove hardware ---> add a new hard drive (maybe?) That should create a partition that it can see, then just format the thing..... Maybe?.....

  6. Well let me call myself stupid before anyone else does!! It helps to set the jumper right (just pull it off!) before putting the drive in the case! Boy do I feel stupid now. Thanks for the help anyway. The drive works fine!! Now I have 60 extra GB for video editing.

You didn't just slink away, after you found a "dumb" error.
