Is it possible to take an avi file and REPLACE some selected part of video without altering the original soundtrack ? If yes, pl suggest the method. Thanks

With Premiere you can. Use the razor to cut the section. Then in a menu somewhere you can unlink the audio/video for the selected clip. Then select just the video and delete it. Then add your clip in it's spot. The section you are replacing needs to be the same size.
