  1. What can I do to adjust the picture on the screen? I am using TMPGEnc to incode AVI's that have subtitles on them. Whne I play them on my TV through the DVD player the subtitles are low and nearly off the bottom of the screen. Is there any thing I can do about this.

if these are avi that have the subtitles already on them -- you will need to slightly letter box your image so that it higher and add a black border to the bottom only .. it make your images slighty squashed looking --

in other words -- resize to 720 x 400 and add a black boarder of 80 to the bottom .. or figures somewhat close to these so it is enough raised without to much distortion

u are gonna have to lop off some lines off the top of the video image, (start with 16 then 32), such that when TMPGEnc re-centers the image, the subtitles are shifted upwards. not a problem if ur original is letterboxed. u could also resize the entire video image, making it smaller but making sure to keep its original aspect ratio, resulting in a smaller video image and black borders all around the image. this may not be too bad, considering the overscan area on most TVs (not calibrated) prevent u from seeing the entire image anyway. (or just letterbox the bottom of the video image as bj_m stated)
