I thought it would be good to compile a list of settings for SVCD2DVDMPG when using different authoring packages. Whilst I've used a few apps for authoring I haven't tried all of them. Heres a few to get us going, please reply with your additions:
SVCD2DVDMPG
DVD Maestro: MPG->ES or BIN->ES. Patch to 352, 1st header. Re-patch to 480, 1st header
Ulead MF 2: MPG->PS or BIN->PS. Patch to 352, 1st header. Re-patch to 480, Entire file
SVCD2DVDMPG+
DVD Maestro: Elementry Streams. Patch to 352, 1st header. Re-patch to 480, 1st header
Ulead MF 2: Program Streams. Patch to 352, 1st header. Re-patch to 480, Entire file

Chrissyboy,
Am I correct to say:
1. In the + version if you do the SDE header patch for the Pioneer fix and select Elementry Streams for output and then author with Maestro, Ulead MF2, DVDLab, TMPGEnc DVD Author etc that your fix will be in the final .VOB files produced by these programs?
2. In your reference above to "Re-patching" Maestro, would I need to do the entire file or just the 1st header since the SDE patch was added?
3. I realize that DVDLab will accept SVCD as input for DVD but does not correct the header as you do.
4. I do not know about TMPGEnc DVD Author accepting SVCD input for DVD but I am sure it does not correct the header as you do.
Thanks..... -
1. Whilst i haven't tested all cases - in theory yes.
2. It is first header. This is because Maestro produces a VTS per SVCD CD (in most cases). Repatching has nothing to do with SDE patching...
3. True - nor does it allow you to automate the inport/transcoding of say 5 SVCDs
4. You whould need to patch the headers to 352 as normal.
Dont get confussed with "patching/repatching headers" and Applying the SDE fix. Patching headers refers to sequence headers and is done to fool authoring software. SDE referes to sequence display extensions and is done to attempt to fix the way Pioneer DVD players decode a MPEG stream.SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

I have found that TMPGEnc DVD Author works best if you patch the entire file, often you will get a "fail to initialize decoder" or something like that if you just do the header. Also I find that sometimes I have to use DVDPatcher to patch with as well.

tuanGuest
Finally I have succeeded in converting my SVCD collections to DVD+R.
I would like to thank you for your good tool and share some experiences
that I have in conjunction of DVDLab usage so that you can share with other
users in your DVDLab guide.
1. 'svcd2dvdmpg+' settings:
o Don't need to use SDEPatcher.
o Select 'Elementary Streams'.
o Select patch for '1st Header' with '352'.
2. 'DVDLab' settings:
o Project Settings (under CompileDVD):
- 16:9 mode: Let player decide.
- Menu mode: use 4:3
3. IMPORTANT: After 'CompileDVD' in DVDLab, use 'svcd2dvdmpg+' to
patch 'Entire' with '480' for all VOBs.
At least it works ok on my stand alone Pioneer DV 525 with
setting '4:3 Pan&Scan', except of some crackling noise for audio
with some clips of high frequency. But that is different issue that
I am still working on. -
A few questions:
1.
I didn't think the re-patching had much to do with the authoring software. I thought re-patching the first header vs. re-patching the entire file was more a question of whether your stand-alone DVD requires entire file patching.
But maybe the standalone DVD only dictates whether re-patching is required in the first place, and the question of all vs. first is an issue of authoring software.
Can someone explain just what depends on what...and why?
2.
Okay, I've discovered MovieFactory won't accept 16:9 SVCD's (i.e., anamorphic widescreen), unless they are patched to 704....it compains if you try 352.
Chrissyboy, do you have anything to add regarding the use of anamorphic widescreen SVCD's? Does SVCD2DVDMPG maintain the aspect ratio tags? If I patch an erroneously tagged SVCD from 4:3 to 16:9, do I need to do the whole file, or just the first header? When should I patch aspect ratio: on the original MPG, or the DVD-Ready MPG, or the VOB? Could you add an aspect-ratio patcher functionality to SVCD2DVDMPG, so we don't have to use DVDPatcher on every file? Also, do most DVD players tolerate non-standard GOP lengths? -
Hate to sound the thick guy here but whe you say re-patch you mean do the same as you did the first time but change the res to 480 and entire file?

I am converting to DVD with SVCD2DVDMPG and then I will burn with CopytoDVD. I have mpgs. Do I use MPG-PS or MPG-ES
-
dumbo jonesGuest
I have just started using this software.
Even after following the Ulead MF2 guide the files are twice the original mpg ( vcd ) size.
Also when they are burnt to dvd the results are a bit jumpy.
Is this the way it is??
Thanks -
dumbo jones: no MF is reencoding & that is producing the "jumpyness". I would suggest playing around with the settings do that the size indicator shows a similar size or try another authoring package.

I am just trying to find out about the different autoring programs you can use if you don't want to use SVCD2DVDs authoring. No thread has be done with respect to what the settings are needed if you have to apply the pan and scan patch (SDE) in svcd2dvd.
So, to the people who use a different authoring program AND have to apply the pan and scan patch in SVCD2DVD first, what are your your settings for SVCD2DVD and what are your settings in the DVD authoring program so your final product still has the SDE in the mpeg file and the resulting DVD plays perfect on your TV.

Choppy? Is that after MF has authored it? What about when you author with SVCD2DVD?

Ok,
What are the best settings for Nero, and what is the best/easiest dvd authoring program out there? I have had a lot of out of sync issues with movies with watermarks, is this normal? What is the best fix for it?
THANKS
