I just replaced a Compaq MB (my son messed it up by craming in memory wrong) with an Asus A7N8X deluxe V2.0. Did full reinstall from a format (Win ME) and now DVD2SVCD won't finish. It did ONCE running in safe mode but all the pop ups (safe mode alerts) gets old. It seems to crash during CCE or TMPGEnc and sometimes during bbmpeg. I don't think it's heat related. I have the case off with a fan blowing into the guts. Sometimes it runs for 2 hours sometimes 12 before it freezes. If I'm watching it it will just stop. Mouse and keyboard freeze up. Requires a power off. If the screen is blacked out and I turn on the monitor to take a look there is a "dotted" line at the very top that looks like green "punch card holes" running across the top of the screen. I need to unplug the power cord and wait 30 seconds before I can boot back up. I get a "no keyboard" error if I don't unplug. I use a USB keyboard. Everything worked great with the Compaq MB. Besides this problem, I don't see any others. I used a memory tester (memtest-86) for 5 hours and no problems. Any ideas? I NEED to use this program!

I just got a new computer last night and I also got the Asus A7N8X deluxe V2.0 Mobo. When I re-install DVD2SVCDand CCE 2.50 I will let you know if it works or not.
Try TMpgenc along maybe to see what happens? All I've got in this world is my balls and my word.....

Appreciate it!
It's weird, sometimes it cranks along for an hour or so, other times 10+ hours before it crashes. I did get it to work once (all I tried) in safe mode. What a hassle! All those popups to answer. You can't "set it and forget it" doing it that way. Oh, and it's ALL movies, not just one. If you get it working I'll have to assume it's something else and not the MB. -
Ok. I loaded software and ran DVD2SVCD with DVD settings and encoding with CCE with Avisynth 2.5 and it all finished perfectly. It was double the speed which was awesome. I am running XP2500 CPU.
I am not sure but as far as I know safe mode just uses bare min. drivers and components. I think that you are having a conflict with one of your existing components or drivers with the new motherboard.
I would start with getting latest drivers for video card and mobo.
Hope you can figure it out.
Goodluck! All I've got in this world is my balls and my word.....

Joerocker,
It's not the MOBO, nor the nVidiia. A lot of cheaper boards have no problem, including mine. You may have a bad install. Try again, from a fresh format. Since you just got it, now is the best time to do it, before you get all the other progs to where you want them. -
Maybe you're right. I ran it again last night in safe mode and it finished. Man, I already have it all set up the way I like it! Damn! OK, one last time... I'll keep you posted. And thanks for the replies. jnk76, bet you were sweating waiting for it to finish.
-
It didn't make sense for it to fail so I was not sweating but kinda hoping I had no problems. What CPU do you have? I have heard that the lower end processors (less than XP 1800) may have problems. Also if your processor is an older model and not the model 8 (throughbred) model you can have problems. The problems may be arising because it is using the CPU intensively during CCE encoding. Then again.....I still believe it is some kind of driver problem because it works in safe mode.

Everything is old (relatively) except the MB. CPU is 1.33 regular Athlon thunderbird. The video is a gforce2 MX400. I've been thinking about upgrading both. I'll try the format and re-install first. Then I'll look into upgrading. Thanks for the help.

WOW!
You got a kick @ss MB but your components are old and outdated?
It is too late now but in my opinion you should have done one of the following:
1) get cheap MB (not quality cheap but $$ cheap....so an older model)
2) get new system and cheap MB and have 2 computers. One for burning and one for calculating. Just like me
I think your problems may be with the CPU. There are settings in BIOS that you have to change to work with the older CPU's with 100/133 Ext. Freq.
i will take a look and see if I can find the document again. Will get back to you.All I've got in this world is my balls and my word.....

Ok. Not sure what the CPU frequency is but if it is 200mhz then this might help.

Thanks but I didn't need it. The CPU is 133. Anyway, loaded my Win 2000 and it worked. So, now I know it's a problem with Win ME drivers since it works in safe mode. Maybe I'll do one more fresh install and see if the glitch goes away.

i missed your OS in your first post.
I would have pointed out from beginning that win NT/ 2000 and XP are only recommened. problems are not surprising on 98 and ME.All I've got in this world is my balls and my word.....

jnk76- what speed do you encode with your 2500+ & CCE??
have u thougth about overclcoking your processor? just crank up the multiplier (leave fsb alone). if you keep the voltage at default (1.65V) then there will be no danger of damaging your pc!
i recentl;y bought a 2500+ and i clocked it up to the speed of a 3000+ (2.25GHz!) on DEFAULT voltages!!!
Like my saying says, its speed for free!!!!1)Why Not Overclock a little?! speed 4 free!!!!

freak_in_cage_10k, (what kind of call name is that)
Depending on settings from DVD2AVI the most I have gotten so far is approx. 2.500.....I think it was slighty under. It avg's around the 2.3 range but for some movies or episodes has gone down to 1.4.
Now with my Athlon 1200 the best I got 1.100 to 1.200 and sometimes down to 0.500.
I am soooooo happy with the improvement and speed I have not even thought about overclocking. I have never overclocked before but I am kinda iffy because of the extra heat and instability that can occur.
What speeds are you getting from CCE by overclocking?
I am not sure if the ver. of CCE makes a difference but I am using 2.50.All I've got in this world is my balls and my word.....

jnk76- firstly let us establish that my user name kicks ass! what kind of a name is jnk76?! your initials followed by your DOB- how very original!:P If you are a worshiper of the film "dude, wheres my car" (i am!) then you would understand the name, although if you were born in 76 then i doubt u would like it, hehe
I have a 2200+ and encode at about 1.5 or so, thats with VBR, pretty much standard dvd2svcd settings (min 300, max 2521 (approx) and av 2100). it does fluctuate a little but not a huge amount.i think it has gone up to about 1.7 before, depends on how recently i defragged my drive etc.
the difference between versions of CCE is prettty much negligible as far as i am aware.
with regards to overclcoking, i am not a hardcore overclockers, a lot of the time it isn;t worth the extra effort, + you encounter additional expense with extra cooling etc. However, the exception comes when you have a processor such as the 2500+ Allow me to explain, in very simple terms, the 2500+ is HIGHLY overclockable!!!!! This is because the arcatechure is VERY similar to that of the 3000+.
Normally, when you want to overclock you have to increase the voltage going into the processor. this generates a huge amount of extra heat and is a pain in the behind to get rid of! So, in my opinion, the easiest thing is to forget about all this extra cooling etc and just keep the processor at stock voltage (1.65V if i remember correctly!) This means that very little additional heat will be released!
How much you will be able to overclock your processor depends on the stepping of your processor (basically its serial number, where it was made etc). Why not try it and find out?! it will not damage your pc, if it doesn;t boot up or crashes etc then just take it down a little bit!
I recently bought a 2500+. I overclocked it from 1.8GHz to 2.2GHz without increasing the voltage at all, and hence encountering very little extra heat! all i did was increase the CPU multiplier from 11 to 13.5 (in small steps) Having increased it i ran 3d mark 01 to test its stability! Please note, the 3000+ runs at 2.2GHz, so i basically have a 3000+ for a 1/3 of the price!
I no longer have the processor, i have posted it to my friend who is a MAD overclocker and will probably hit 2.5-->2.6GHz with it on air cooling!
if you want to learn more about it then check out www.futuremark.com (the forums) as they know a lot more than i do! The beauty with the 2500 is that it is so overclockable at such low voltages!!!1)Why Not Overclock a little?! speed 4 free!!!!
