I am trying to convert an avi file to MPEG1 (to make a VCD) in TMPGEnc. However, after a few seconds in the encoding process breaks down with TMPGEnc reporting a write error at a give frame. Ok fine, so I open the file in VirtualDub and start frameserving to TMPGEnc. This has worked for me on many previous occasions but now when I go to open up the .avi file created in VirtualDub in TMPGEnc I get an error message saying the file is not recognised or compatible. Can anyone help please?? Thanks in advance

open the avi file in g-spot (available in tools section to the left) and tell us what kind of avi file you have. we should be able to provide some help with that info.

Thanks for the help/suggestion but I've solved it now. I changed the priority of the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader to 2 in the environment settings under VDAPI plug-in and it now works fine. Not sure what that does but it seems to be able to cope with the corrupt/bad frame in the .avi file. Cheers!
