Searched the forum and possibly missed a good post on how to fix this so my apologies if this is redundant.
I've got three 700MB .avi files in DivX format and the video is jerky in all three files every few frames throughout the movie. The audio is fine so I'm looking for a solution to smooth out the video if possible.
Video detail: Resolution: 640x272 at 23.976 fps formatted in DivX at 196kbps.
I've seen some posts about using VirtualDub to remove the bad frames but the combined file size is just over 2 GBs so I'm hoping for a quicker solution if it exists.
If the answer is more than obvious then please forgive my ignorance but I'm still new to the ever expanding world of a/v editing.
Thanks for the help!!!

There are 2 DIVX bad frame checkers i use.
First (and quickest) one to try is DivFix the try Virtualdub "MP3 Freeze" version.
You could also make sure you have the right codecs."Today is only yesterdays tomorrow" -
Thank you VERY much for the suggestions! I don't have any problems viewing other similar DivX files so I'm fairly sure it's not a codec problem although always possible. I've tried DivFix with no luck so I'll give VDub a shot. I'm assuming the release you made reference to is VDub 1.5.4, correct?
I found a good guide on this site that informs the uninformed (that's me) on how to utilize VDub to fix both bad frames in an .avi file as well as bad VBR audio here: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/142555.php
I'll give it a shot and post the results here afterwards.
Thanks again! -
OK...remember that there are several different types of DIVX and you may have an oddball that is different from the rest (check out what type you have with GSPOT).
The VIrtualdub is actually a version call "MP3 Freeze"(I have 1.4c).
If you click on your mentioned link, scroll down the page until you find the one I/m referring to (its the only one that does a full scan and then copies the bad frame numbers. You can view it in Notepad or something."Today is only yesterdays tomorrow" -
I used Vdub-mp3 (1.4c) which did list one block of "bad" frames but even after I edited them out I still had the same jerky playback as before. I then used GSpot to verify that I had the correct codecs installed and it said that I had three codecs that were all supposedly "compatible" for video playback.
The three I have installed are:
1. DivXMPEG-4 Low-Motion
2. DivX MPEG-4 DVD Video Decompressor
3. 3ivx D4 Video Decoder
It said I had the correct audio codec as well (AC3).
Here's something strange that happened: I formatted another computer I had and reloaded the O/S (XP) and before loading any codecs (other than the standard MS codecs that came with the OS) I tried playing the file and it tried searching for codecs and couldn't find the correct one but played none the less. It didn't have any sound but it did play the video without any jerky frames. As soon as I loaded the codecs above I had the same problem as before. It does sound like a codec problem but I'm stumped as to what I should do make it work properly. Here's the properties of the problematic avi file (one of three files all having the same problem):
Any other suggestions?
As always, thanks!!
