Hi everyone.
I have an interesting tid-bit w/ a DVD I purchased last week. I finally
got ta play around w/ it. Anyways..
DVD specs...
Ok, here is the interesting part. The Movie states in it's Bonus Features..
* Anamorphic Widescreen (Aspect Ratio 1.85:1)
Then, on the bottom on the DVD case, it states..
WideScreen Version.. presented in letterbox format.. yada, yada..
But, when I play on my Apex AD-1500 and view it on my 13" TV set, it's
in FullScreen !!
I've never experienced this w/ a DVD.
Here's the tricky thing though..
I noticed that when I capture it via my ATI-TV Wonder pci card, and I view
the capture .AVI (used Matrox VFW driver - nice) it shows about 8 pixels
(Top and Bottom)
Some notes about encoding quality...
I noticed that after I captured a few test scenes, and encoded them (I used
the kDVD and quality was very nice, and I couldn't really see any blocks on this.
Misc. specs..
* DVD Movie: "Holy Special Edition Batman - BATMAN" (orig. 1966)
* ATI-TV Wonder pci card
* Codec: Matrox VFW, using MJPEG set to "Digital"
* Template: kDVD
* Bitrate: CQ w/ 2500 max, 300 min
* Resolution: 352x480
* Final Aspect Ratio: IN(4:3), OUT(16:9)
* Comments: Exellent quality. No blocks w/in reason, using low bitrates.
This movie must have ben taken straight off the reals, cause I could not
find blocks, even if I looked for them. The source (though captured) did
not have any blocks either. I've seen many DVDs that have blocks in them.
It makes me wonder if they digitalize them first via MPEG and then re-author
them again to MPEGhence the blocks on some.
Does anybody have any answers to this weird DVD.
