Main difference:

510 offers 4x DVD+RW write speed whereas
500 offers only 2.4x DVD+RW write speed

Has anyone tried 510 firmware on a 500 a or ax ?

Not a poll but has anyone yet settled on a firmware version for the 500a / ax (I'am still running 1f as it works, but I think its upto 2.0e)

the dru-500 can now be flashed with the 2.0f firmware and it allows dvd +r/rw writing at 4x instead of 2.4x

that was the main difference between the 500 and the 510. now only the cdrw speed being 16x instead of 10x and the dvd playback is 12x instead of 8x.

No DRU-500A(X) does not write DVD+RW in 4x, only DVD+R.
