Hi just wondering if there is n e other programme that will convert a svcd/vcd to fullscreen from widescreen quicker than tmpgenc, have used tmpgenc and the clip frame setting to do this but it takes ages. Any help would be much appreciated.
Many Thanx

You could try virtualdubmod (Tools Section) which will open MPEG1/2. Select Video/Filters and then Null Transform. Under this filter select "cropping" and clip the frame as necessary. Then select File/Start Frame server and save a .vdr file.
You can the open the .vdr file in TMPGEnc, or mainconcept etc.
[To try other encoders, follow the above but use the VFAPI converter (on the Link2 wrapper fromvideotools.net) to create a "pseudo"avi which should be openable in any encoder].
Not sure on speed but would guess the quickest would be virtualdubmod then mainconcept. Using avisynth instead of virtualdubmod would probably quicker but I'venever tried -
UGH, why would you want to?
Saw the pan and scam version of "The Transporter" last night and it paled in comparison to the widescreen version, as most transfers do. It's like a different director edited the movie after it's original. -
Know what you mean but my kids whatch back-ups in their room on a portable (14"). A 2.35:1 on that is like a little stripe across the middle of the TV. I tend to resize 2.35:1 to 16:9 which fills my widescreen TV and has only narrow borders on a 4:3 set. You don't lose too much detail either - reasonable compromise.
-
Reason y i would like to change from w/screen to f/screen is cos i don't have a widescreen telly, don't like them to b honest, have 1 large tv and 5 portables at home, none widescreen, and 5 dvd players, when i let my son/daughter watch n e movies i have in svcd w/screen format, can convert from svcd to dvd no problem, they all have large black borders, top and bottom, would like to open them out a bit, but preferably not with tmpgenc, it takes too long, just wondering if there's n e other programme that will let me do this a little quicker. Could i do this with IFO Edit ?? cos there is a setting there for screen size, but does it alter the size ???
Many Thanx

You must reencode, you cannot use ifoedit. You can try some other encoders like cinemacraft, mainconcepts but then you have to frameserve like greengate69 says.
-
ok, now u lost me, is there a tutorial n e where on this topic ??? got lost with greengate69's reply, sorry if i seem a bit thick on this 1, but is it quicker than tmpgenc ???
Many Thanx

Having black bars at the top and bottom is a cut film. Convert to 4:3 and enjoy.

How do i convert to 4:3 ?? and get rid of black top and bottom bars ???

lol Yeah, that kinda lost me too. Although technically, you are viewing a 4:3 aspect ratio on a non-widescreen television, it was converted that way by the player during playback. Although I would never chop up one of my movies in this manner (I have a widescreen tv), I agree with greengate69's method the most. Utilizing a 1.85, or 1.77 aspect ratio would reduce the veritcal bars, even on a 4:3 television to about 1/10th the image area, rather than about 1/2 of the image area. This way, you could keep most of your image area, and see more image on a plain old 4:3 television.

For 2.35 Video, there should be 60 pixels vertical of letterboxing on top, and 60 vertical on bottom. For 1.85, and 1.77 video, there will be no letterboxing. All of these numbers of for 16:9 video of course.
For 4:3 aspect ratio's, you will have around 276 pixels of image area, and 102 pixels vertical of letterboxing on top, and 102 pixels vertical of letterboxing on bottom for 2.35:1 video. For 1.85:1, and 1.75:1 video in a 4:3 aspect ratio, you will have 360 pixels of image area, and 60 pixels of letterboxing on top, and 60 pixels of letterboxing on bottom. Of course, 4:3 video, with a 4:3 aspect ratio MPEG is fullscreen, meaning 480 vertical pixels of image area.Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything... -
I can't stand 2:35 ratio widescreen even on a 27" tv. I can't imagin how bad it looks on something smaller. I'd love to convert the Special Edition of T2 to at least 1:35:1(?). It still pisses me off that Artisan won't offer the Extended Special Edition in full screen.
Just out of curiousity, how do you do this with TMPGEnc? and what's the most recent version? I haven't used it in awhile. hehe -
i havea 4:3 tv and it pains me to watch the pan&scan transfers. SW Episode II and spiderman were just butchered
-
To each his own. I hate a pan & scan versions. I even hated them on my 4:3 television. Half the movie is missing...
Anyway, to crop in TMPGenc, under the Advanced tab, you use the Clip Frame filter. Specifically, use the Left, and Right options, to remove enough of the left and right sides of the video, to allow it to run fullscreen. Try clipping 80 pixels off off each side, for a total of 160 pixels of width. I've never done this, so you may have to fudge with the 80 pixel value until you get something that looks right. SVCD is a wonky resolution, since it's perfectly square. It's hard to tell when you have the aspect ratio right. Make sure you set the output to Full Screen.Impossible to see the future is. Take a look at these two guides, sent in by Miles
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/kingjohns-guides/visitors/index.html -
In TMPG under Setting->Advanced you can select "No margin (keep aspect ratio)" under the Video arrange method. This will remove the black bars unless they were encoded as part of the video.
2:35:1 is frequently (or always?) 16:9 with black bars encoded in in the video to make the aspect ratio look correct. If it's 4:3 widescreen (like SVCD or video capture) the same rule applies except that ALL of the black borders have been encoded. You can remove these encoded bars under the "Clip frame" option and get true full screen if that's what you REALLY want...
... but I beg you to reconsider.

One more thing... leave a little bit of the black bars to allow for overscan.

I have a 4:3 TV but still watch them in widescreen.
I always said I wouldn't get a widescreen tv but am now looking for one.
Especially as most satellite tv channels now broadcast in widescreen.
You lose some of the picture by viewing them in 4:3 pan and scan or letterbox.

Could someone help me with porno movie I have ...
It is anamorphic 2.35:1 film shot porno but I really love close-up shots of female ... hmmm ... shall we say below-the-wait nudity.
So I don't want to blow up movie JUST to fill the screen. I want to blow it up EVEN MORE so I see all that is so lovely and special of woman and nothing else. This will make the movie more watchable for me as I hate widescreen and I'm not a ... how to say? ... chest man at all. I don't need to see that part to get excited.
It is HARD to watch widescreen porno on 9" TV but it is color TV
ANYWAY I THANK YOU!
Oh I must add to you...
I don't know how to do avi's script or tgpo encoding but I want to use DivX so it will work in my Pioneer stand alone DVD player someone told me that works better than CVD or SCVD though I'm thinking maybe that Xvid might be better since the X is first it was made for porno movies, correct? So it make better quality than DivX since the X is last it of no concern to that method?!?!?
Also I was told I should make audio in 1 channel mono AC-3 so I have more bitrate for video since I am blowing it up to extra full screen size but if it possible I want to put at least 2 porno movie on one DVD-R or will DVD+R hold more due to plus size format meaning more space am I correct?
Please help!
P.S.
I download tgpo sp encoder from the 'net for free so I no have to pay $1,500 after all I need to spend money on porno DVD not some silly software so I need help to use as I don't have manual and the guide don't tell you how to do extra full screen close-up mode!
PLEASE DON'T BE RUDE AND TELL ME TO LOOK AT GUIDE ON LEFT OF SCREEN
I do that it no tell how this method is done very well

I think that would fall under the category of Too Much Information...
Fozzee, come on over to the dark side. Let go of your feelings. You don't know the power of th....sorry..I got carried away...
Nitemare, this post was specifically how to convert a letterboxed video to 4:3, meaning the letterboxing is already encoded as part of the video. To answer your other psudeo question, yes, 2.35 aspect ratio movies always have letterboxing. In a 16:9 aspect ratio, they have a vertical height of 360 (ntsc of course), with the rest in letterboxing. In a 4:3 video, the letterboxing takes up a wopping 204 pixels out of the 480 vertical. These are barely visible on a widescreen tv, taking up a less than a tenth of the screen. 1.85/1.77 movies are fullscreen for a widescreen television.

"I don't think film makers intended actors like John Goodman to look thin!!!!!
By changing to full screen you get loads of 6' 4" skinny people.

If you use "No margin (keep aspect ratio)" the correct aspect ratio is maintained and no one looks thin. It just zooms up on the center of the widecreen file and automatically crops out anything outside of the correct aspect ratio. That's what this setting is for.
Of course you're also tossing out almost 3/5 of the movie so I really don't recommend this at all, but if you insist on doing it then I feel this is the easiest way.
You could also demux and use VFAPICONV and make an AVI to load in Vdub. Someone made a pan and scan filter for it but I haven't tried it. You could then apply the filter and frameserve back to TMPG (or resize and serve to CCE).
My true advice? Embrace widescreen.
NitemareEven a broken clock is right twice a day. -
I had completely forgotten about this mode. No clipping necessary. Just pick it, and go, assuming there is no letterboxing hard coded. It's only if the letterboxing is hard coded (applies in this case), that you would need to manually clip, using the Clip Frame feature in TMPgenc, or some other editor.

By making it fullscreen and keeping the aspect ratio you lose the sides of the film.
