  1. What is the way to go?

From a DVD directly to SVCD (using tools & frameserving).
    OR
Make a DivX from the DVD first and use the DivX to make the SVCD.

Some claim that a DivX video has lesser detail than the DVD making it more easier to encode.

    What do the professionals say???

  2. Do not do Divx to Svcd you'll run into many issues with compatability, and why waste the extra time. But i would urge not to do dvd2divx then divx2svcd i've heard horror stories about this, cuz the divx bitrate is too high for most player i think was the reason, and ppl have a hard time converting it, but either way way take the extra step for nothing?

  3. Encoding your DVD to DivX first will just waste a lot of time and result in a poor quaility MPEG2 encode. Go from DVD -> SVCD.
