  1. OK...I have an opinion question. I would like to know what DVD authoring programs will accept 352x480 without reencoding. I have tried DVD architect (reencodes!) DVDit (reencodes!) DVD Moviefactory (problems with audio). I know DVDlab will do it but I cannot get it to work so I will not buy it. Any other suggestions from you experts out there? Thanks in advance!

  2. Follow up....these are American Football games captured through Virtual Dub from VHS tapes using Huffy UV in 352x480 and then reencoded in TMPGenc and/or Vegas Video 3. The resulting files look fine quality wise on my computer, but I am looking for a DVD authoring program that WILL NOT reencode my 352x480 resolution MPEG file. Any advice?

If you are looking for a simple to use program, then perhaps you should try ULEAD DVD Workshop. There is a trial version. It works via a step-guide and when you reach to the stage when the program will compile the video and audio, you have the option to tell the program not to re-encode non-dvd resolutions. Both for video and audio. If you wish to capture from VHS or TV, you may find it's capture capabilities useful.

Another choice could be Tmpgenc DVD Author application.

For simple DVDs with a few episodes, TV programmes or movies, I would use DVD Workshop.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

DVD it! will NOT re-encode an MPEG file. That is because it CAN'T do it. It can only convert AVI or QT video files. It would reject a non-compliant MPEG files from the start.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

You're right. It did reject the file from the beginning. My bad!

  9. DVDMaestro, DVDLab, and TMPGenc DVD Author are actually the only three programs i could get a final output from without crashing. and all three of these seem to be ok for whta you are wanting.

    Maestro is my personal favorite.

You could go with Scenarist but good luck learning(and affording)

It is likely then that your MPEG files are not DVD-compliant files.

  11. They were 352x480 MPEG 2 files but I believe the audio was not compliant. Just a Guess. I did get the same files to work with TMPGenc DVD Author, however.

You're right, Scenearist is a BIT out of my price range!!! I'll stick with DVD Author!
