Hi,

I am experimenting with converting digital8 tapes to DVD, trying to preserve the best video quality as possible while doing some basic editting. I use Ulead Video Studio 6 SE (not much differnt from VS7) for capture, edit & effect, TMPGEnc to encode, and VS6 again to author. My understanding is that the codec will be in play when I save my final product to an AVI file prior to encoding, and that it does have an important role. The compression option, however, shows a host of codec:

- DV Video Encoder - type 1
- DV Video Encoder - type 2
- MJPEG Compressor
- Cinepak Codec by Radius
- Intel Indeo (r) Video R3.2
- Intel Indeo (r) Video 4.5
- Intel IYUV codec
- Microsoft RLE
- Indeo (r) video 5.10
- Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec V1
- Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec V2

Don't ask me where they are from, I have no ideas. My PC has 1.6GHz Intel running Window XP. The default used with VS6 SE is DV type 1. I wonder if I should use something else within this list for a better result, or if there is a need to buy a different one for that matter. Thanks.
