Help - Backing up DVD-R to another DVD-R!

Hey all, my aunt gave me a DVD-R of grandpa's 80th birthday. Here's my problem, I'm using InstantCopy because it isn't encrypted, but it keeps erroring out at about 80% when making a disk image to the hard-drive (I need to make bakups for the other relatives and my aunt doesn't have a burner). I want to keep it on the hard drive so I don't keep using the original disk (in case it gets damaged).

Can I just copy the Video_TS and Audio_TS folders with the files in them to the hard drive and burn that way? If so, how do I tell whatever program the correct order so everything carries over menu-wise? I have a grad party for the cousin tomorrow and would like to surprise everyone with a DVD copy instead of a VHS backup which is what I originally promised them (just got my burner this AM, yeah!).

well u should be able just to do a direct disc to disc copy with dvdxcopy or dvdxcopy xpress or u can use primo prass dvd if it has trouble reading the dvdr then u should use smart ripper and rip it then make copies from the files if u look in my other post i have been having the same type of trouble but i think i got it to work now so this might work cuz when i try to rip it with dvd decryptor it give me errors and the same thing with dvdxcopy so i would try smart ripper in the file mode and just click start thats been workin for me today im about to try a second movie right now

yes you can just copy the files off and reburn them. Personally I'd have a burn program like Nero just make an image and burn the image. Should be a breeze.

Use RcordNow DX.
Close wizard.
Click on Copy from the Menu.
Specify source and target drive.
Burn.
Yes it's simple as this!

yeah.. use DVD Decrypter, forget about Nero, I wouldn't really use Decrypter to burn the ISO, I would use Record Now DX

It is, but it always freezes on me for this DVD-R at about 80%. I don't think it can read the BUP file. What does this file do?

I use RecordNow Max to make exact copies which, works all the time for me.

Maybe there is something wrong with the file so what I would try is first copy all the files to a VIDEO_TS folder to your hard drive then delete the BUP files and then use IFOedit to make new IFO's and then have it "get VOB sectors". That should fix any errors.

I do this all the time and the easiest way that I have found is to use smart ripper in the back up mode and then use nero to burn the files on to the DVD-R. It has worked every time for me without any problems. You can also tell nero how many copies you want and also save the movie this way on your hard drive. Hope that this helps.

You've got a bad disc on your hands.

1. Use DVD Decrypter in FILE MODE with the "error skip" turned on.
2. Once done, burn to a new DVD-R.
3. I'd suggest the new Nero 5.5.10.20 or higher in DVD-Video mode.

If DVD Decrypter won't get the info, sorry, it's too bad.

I had a bad factory-made disc once. Took about 15 tries to rip it, but DVD Decrypter finally got it all done. The new burn of it has a video error for about 1 second where the old discs was bad.

Bup is just a backup of the ifo if I remember correctly, not a big deal.

Bob w idea is probaly the best as it will fix all the ifos and bups files on the dvd and make it 100% compliant

when he said get vob sectors, i think he meant get vts sectors and make sure u delete the ifo files too before u use ifoedit to create new ones
