Actually the Panasonics also can use dvd-r disks too, -
That's true, but I was referring to the rewritable format (DVD-RAM vs DVD+RW).
There are poeple out there, myself included, who want to simply record something on the DVD recorder and watch the recorded show in another room. I know you can use -R or +R, but you can't edit the show first and the disc can't be reused.
