    My system:

    733mhz via 133 processor
    64 bit video 2-8mg shared
    192mg RAM
    20gb ATA 100 HD
    Iomagic PC100 Tuner Card
    Win98se
    PowerVCR II

I've defragged the HD, enabled DMA for the HD. I've dowloaded all the microsoft updates (including Direct X 9.1). I've downloaded the latest drivers for my 4-1 via processor. I can play live TV great. When I try to record or timeshift my video gets choppy. When I set the record option to MPEG-1 average the video pauses the least. MPEG-2 is pretty bad.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Tom

    1) Upgrade to at least a PIII

    2) Add a separate capture drive

    3) Add more RAM

    4) Capture at lower settings ie. 352 X 240 instead of 480 X 480 or 720 X 480. Set the bitrate lower.

What exactly are you trying to capture anyway, and what software and software specs are you using?

My current capture equipment allows 740 X 480 Mpeg 2 at up to 8 Mbps and AVIs using Huffy compression with few if any frame drops (PIII 1 GHz with 512 Meg RAM and 4 drives). I also use an ATI All In Wonder 7500 to capture with. If you are getting bad caps with your system, it's because you may have set your sights too high with a limited system...

Oops...that should read 720 X 480 capture (AVI or Mpeg2). At a minimum, upgrade the CPU and get another larger hard drive and use that to capture to. Good luck...

I was thinking my lack of a dedicated video card and low no name cpu would be hurting me. I am trying to capture live tv using PowerVCR II. It captures the video, but it is slow and choppy. Just trying to make a PC based Tivo like machine without dropping a bunch of cash. I understand you have to pay to play!

    Thanks.
