I've aquired a copy of the QuickTime MPEG-2 playback component, and have begun the process of taking a load of M2Vs and combining them with AAC sound.

My problem is that QuickTime seems to choke on large M2V files (movie size, 4.1 gigs etc.) It takes ages to open them, and when it does, they're not all there. Once it reaches a certain point, the picture's just frozen from there on (the timer keeps going, it's not like it's a crash, the video just suddenly stops and the same frame is kept on 'till the end of the movie).

Is there any way to make QuickTime Player load these MPEG-2s properly (i.e. completely), and/or make them load quicker?

VLC loads them in no time at all, and plays all-the-way through, but I have to use QuickTime to add the audio.

Any suggestions? Please, this is really bugging me

Hi again. Hate to reply to my own post, but I did some research, and found that it is in fact a problem with QuickTime, because it can't open MPEG-2s bigger than 2gb. (Even though VLC does it fine )

Does anyone know a way around this? Please

  3. I always encounter this same problem with VOBs. The workaround is to demux and then remux the VOB; then Quicktime will read it properly. But, in your case, you have an elementary video stream so there's nothing to demux/remux....
